66 K20 Frame Tail Length

My 66 K20 eight foot bed Fleetside is missing the tail ends of the frame rails, and I will need to extend to the correct length in order to properly mount the bed. How long should they be? Photos show the right rear rail as it sits. Measurements were taken from the back of the cross piece.

Re: 66 K20 Frame Tail Length

Right behind your rear spring frame bracket there is a small hole in the side of the frame rail. On my 66 K20 it is 11 1/4 inches from the middle of that hole to the end of the frame.

What do you mean the rear cross member was out of square by 5/8 of an inch? There is a rear cross member that is supposed to be out of square with the frame.

Thank you for the photos very much. They are very helpful. Thankfully, my truck is square even though it had a hard life and was really rusty. I replaced the rear cross rail (with the help of another member on this list who made parts for me) because it was so thin. Thank you again!

I don't know if I'd 'school you'.
I'll see if I can find the thread.
That's been asked, regarding that one cross member being at a slight angle.
I'll see if I can find it. But it's not a error in assembly.
Sorry if my tone sounded like I was trying to set you straight. No pun intended.

Re: 66 K20 Frame Tail Length

Found it - You'll see it the same on many leaf spring trucks of our generation.

The one on mine was not that one , but the extreme rear one.
I measured for a fuel tank, of course I measured the long side, built the tank, proceeded to attempt to install…..drilled out the rivets and moved it back an inch and square….
