Optional factory horn?

I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly. Was there an optional horn available?

Not sure about 73 - 80's but 81 - 87's Scottsdales and Silverados got a high note and a low note horns. Custom Deluxes just got the low note horn.

Interesting. If I understand correctly the high note horn is more for animals and the low note horn is for humans. My 78 has two horns which I guess are both low note horns. I'm going to try and replace one of them with a high note horn.

If they are the factory horns, i believe that they should be stamped on them "Lo" or "Hi".

Another advantage of 2 or more horns of difference frequencies is you will also get a 3rd 'warble' note that is the interference frequency of the 2 horns. Not sure of the proper musical term. This 3rd note will have peaks with higher sound levels then either of the two base notes.

IIRC - Cadillac had 3 horns selected to create a special 'Cadillac' sound.

Re: Optional factory horn?

My 84 GMC had both the high and low pitch horns already. Even though both of them now sound perfect after I tweaked the tuning screws on them (to break the years of road grime loose), I still had to add my auxiliary Hutchins horn:
