getting a freebie and have some questions?

ok here we go. was wandering over to visit my mom a couple of saturday's ago and out of the corner of my eye spotted a school bus..... and after doing the digging emailing and whatnot found the lady that will be buying up the property the bus is sitting on. needless to say she wants it gone and said come git it. My question does anybody know how tall the roof is on these things from the ground? It's 3.5 hours from me and she is not able to get a tape measure to find out? Trying to get an idea for my wrecker buddy he says he can haul it but needs that info to make sure he does not need and oversize permit to load it and run down the highways with it lol

Thanks Guys n Gals

That's cool, and free is priceless. How tough would getting a title be?

I remember buying a '65 GTO back in the '70s that had a title that weighed about 40 pounds by the time I got it in my name. #JohnnyCashaPieceataTime

Re: getting a freebie and have some questions?

That is an interesting one.

I looked in the GM heritage archives and they don't say where school bus chassis serial numbers are on 60/62 rigs but I'd check the firewall. There may be a tag on the inside though.

I'd suggest printing out a few copies of a bill of sale form like this one https://eforms.com/bill-of-sale/tx/t...-bill-of-sale/
and having the property owner sign off on it and you can fill in the Vin.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have the local to where it is law enforcement (usually the sheriff's office check it and run it to make sure it isn't stolen and sign off on their inspection form. That and the bill of sale go a long way at the dmv.

That looks like a fun one, good look.

Re: getting a freebie and have some questions?

Will do on the bill of sale Thanks sir!! yeah the closest inspection station is 45 minutes from my house so that is doable. It was a meth head that lived in it so gonna be dammed careful walking inside of it! right now just being patient till she gets the property bought and go from there My Mom is already cheering that it will be gone from her neighborhood lol

Re: getting a freebie and have some questions?

Meth head? Maybe talk to the police and have a drug dog go through it first. The last thing you need is a drug bust. That'll rub all the free right off the deal.

Re: getting a freebie and have some questions?

2nd on having a local deputy do an inspection prior to your wrecker buddy hooking up to it. Drug users often steal things to support their habit. Possible there might be some stolen stuff inside that you don't want to get stuck possessing after it gets to your place. The meth head might have hung onto some old pistol found in a car he burglarized, not realizing the gun has two murders attached to it.

Does look like a cool find and future project. Hope everything works out.
