Motor Mounts

Currently swapping out the previous owners motor (68-72 sbc) with a 5.7 350.
Once it was out I see the previous owner made some engine mounts that set the motor so far back in the opening you couldn't get the distributor cap off. Now I'm wondering why someone would do that?, couldn't measure right, didn't know better,, who knows,,

So I have to ask, what's the issue with dropping the 5.7,sbc with a clutch fan in the so the distributor is off the firewall and sets back far enough to I have space behind the radiator?

Someone here's done it before, so can anyone recommend a/the correct motor mount to use?

kind of straight forward, here's a image of the home made lower mount;

I do Not Need a OEM lower mount plate, I wouldn't mind that if I can find one that will set my engine in without jamming my distributor against the firewall. Any after market mount will do so that's why I'm asking any one that's dropped a 350 SBC in their C-10 that's fits without being against the firewall and the oil pan clears the cross member, along with space between the fan and the radiator. I use a clutch fan so it add's another inch or more...
Anyone that can point me the right direction so I'm not pulling all this stuff out later and trying something else?

What you need is the stock, 63-66 frame stands that were used with the 230 and 250 inline 6 and 283 and 327 v8s. They will also work with your later year 350 with the correct 63-66 v8 block mount. The HEI will be close to the firewall, but it will fit and you can take the cap on and off. I've still got a 283 in my 63, but it has an HEI and I don't have any issues with it.

Regarding your clutch fan, if you want to run a factory v8 shroud, you'll need a short water pump instead of the later year long water pump. A 65 Impala fan clutch and 5 blade fan fits perfectly with a short water pump and factory shroud for the 63-66 trucks.

The pic below shows where the frame stands you need mount to the frame and where the engine sits in the factory v8 location with an HEI
