Can anyone identify my frame

The mechanic that worked on it guessed it was a 77 or 78.

It's been cut to a short step side. It's 4x4. My parking brake cable look similar to K5 parking brake mounts.

No frame numbers stamped into it? My 84 has VIN's all over the frame. I've counted at least 3 places.) That would be a good start to tracking your birth certificate down.

It has this number. I could also try running my fingers along the top of the frame to see if I feel other numbers stamped in.

The end of that looks an awful lot like a date to me.

Re: Can anyone identify my frame

That's a part number and date code.

The partial VIN will be on the top of the upper flange of the frame rail.

Oh so the frame is 1976?

The frame might have been too dirty to feel for other numbers. I'll wash it tonight and try again.

Re: Can anyone identify my frame

I'd take a mirror and check the top of the frame rail under the cab. and under the bed Back to where the tank used to be

I couldn't get the link to work but this screenshot should give you an idea of what the vin should look like on the frame.

CFJ175757, where:

C = Chevrolet (T=GMC)
F = Model Year (A=1980, B=1981... F=1985))
J = Final Assembly location (J = Janesville, F = Flint, 1 = Oshawa, etc)
175757 = sequential portion of VIN, starting with 100001 (GMC may start with 500001)

Maybe. July is right on the cusp of model changeover, so maybe produced in 1976 calendar year for the 1977 model year.

I do not recall any big changes between '76 and '77 with the frames, chassis or suspension.

Re: Can anyone identify my frame

I feel like one of the biggest identifiers is my emergency brake cable holder. The only vehicles I've seen with this kind of parking brake cable mount have been the K5 blazers. But the frame on a K5 Blazer isn't very long and my frame has been cut to a short frame so maybe that doesn't make sense.

Re: Can anyone identify my frame

So your frame has a splice in it.

The front may be from one frame and the rear part from another truck.

Yeah it's possible. I cut some plates to reinforce that weld.
