Are wheel bearings all the same for half ton?

Are wheel bearings all the same size for the 80's half ton trucks? The parts places say to use Timken part numbers set3, and set6 (inner and outer) for my 87 half ton 2wd. Just wanted to check and make sure there was no chance of a different wheel bearing, for some reason.

I had heard something about heavy duty brakes... can't remember. Thought it best to ask.

I believe the 1" rotors used a different outer bearing than the 1.25" rotors.

Where exactly is the 1.25" measurement taken from?

Also, is there any situation where you just tighten the castle nut, without any need to replace the bearing? My bearing is not making any noise. But the wheel clunks when you rock it side to side, and top to bottom. All other components have been checked, and are fine. No worn tie rods, ball joints, etc.

At this point, best to pull the rotor, clean and inspect the bearings and races, and if things look good, repack with bearing grease and reassemble. If there are any groves in the rotor, good time to have them turned.

The 'clunk' could be a simple case of things being too loose or a worn bearing that still runs quiet.

My Timken book shows an F44hd option from 81-91 that used the #3 and #5 bearing. The #3 and 6 was light duty (I guess) all he seals are the same from 71-91. According to the RPO codes, the F44 is a heavy half where it took the GVW up another 500 or so pounds. I also think that option was a given if you got either a diesel engine or a big block?

I never knew there were two different rotors for the half ton trucks. Maybe there was a brake upgrade you could get.

There were factory options for brake systems on most of the offerings through GM. After the mild makeover in '81, the lighter duty 1/2 ton Squarebody trucks came standard w/the 1" brakes but you could order them w/the optional HD 1.25" set-up. Higher optioned trucks would typically have the 1.25" brake set-up.
