Heat/Sound Deadening Plan - Opinions?

For the floor/rearwall I'm looking at the Flatline pre-cut butyl/aluminum foil kits (floor, wall), plus a layer of Siless Liner (closed cell foam), plus a layer of double-sided aluminum foil/cotton jute, then ACC mass-backed carpet.

For the roof I'm looking at Flatline pre-cut kit, plus a layer of Siless Liner, then the USA-1 Industries vinyl wrapped ABS plastic headliner.

For the firewall I'm looking at the jute/board OEM-style pad.

I'm planning to roll/brush 1-2 coats of Eastwoods rust encapsulator on the firewall and floor first. They are in good shape now.

I'm also planning to add some seam sealer where the kick panel sheet metal meets the floor.

Any advice?

don't discount the doors. a TON of noise and heat/cold is transmitted thru the hollow doors. sound deadener on the backside of the door skin as well as under the door panel will do wonders to help quieten it down & help some with thermal insulation.

2nd on the doors being a large noise source. Replace all the rubber and glass channels.

Otherwise looks like a good plan.

Here's my progress so far.

After removing the glued-on jute from the cowl area, and as much of the glue as I could get off, I painted the entire firewall with Eastwoods rust encapsulator.

Then I added a layer of Siless closed cell foam to the cowl area, down to the firewall pad. The rectangular sheets are the perfect size for this job; they'll reach from the firewall up to the top of the cowl.

Finally, I installed the cardboard-backed jute firewall pad. I got the pad from Repops. It fit size-wise well and most of the pre-made holes made sense, but it was half as thick as the original. I wasn't happy about that, so I glued on a layer of jute that is faced with aluminum foil front and back. I got the foil jute from Classic Industries. Together, the Repops pad and the foil jute matched the factory thickness. Also, the Repops pad came with plastic mounting plugs. I used new rubber ones.

Here's a CRITICAL tip when installing the rubber mounting plugs: Debur the holes! If you don't, the ridge/burs on the holes will simply dig into the head of the plug and it won't go through, no matter how hard you try. A little grease might help too.

Does anybody know how on Earth I'm supposed to install triangular column cover plate? I knocked out the hole in the pad for the column, but there's got to be more to it than that.

I helped my Nephew do (About) the same thing.

It made a Huge difference in the road noise and heat difference.

I did two layers of killmat from the floor to just below the rear window along with some random patches under the dash I could reach while I had the cab stripped apart for rust repair.

I then put these on.

and an underhood blanket.

and topped it off with acc essex with mass backing carpet and the acc molded wall carpet (back of the cab).

The install was quite a bit more time consuming that I thought it was going to be. A good pair of electricians wire cutters is the best thing to use to cut the holes in the carpet after poking through the bolt holes with an ice pick and making the x with a sharp knife. My scissors didnt cut it.

Compared to the stripped interior (damn mice!) with the hole in the floor its a night and day difference sound and heat wise. Almost luxurious.

For carpet holes, I tried a trick I had read about a while back that worked awesome. I took an awl, heated it up with a torch, and passed it through the middle of the hole from underneath the cab through the carpet. Then I took an old socket, with whatever size hole I was trying to make, and heated it up and burned a hole in the carpet from above, centered on the awl. This made perfect holes in the exact right location, right through the carpet and the heavy backing material.
