Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My pleasure. One of these days I'll swing by to collect that Coca∼Cola.
![]() I spent the last couple of days driving. My car. Most of the time on the road, I was thinking about the next "chore" on the 6/71 Rat. " Hummmm....PB Blast the rear bleeder nipples, route the window washer hoses through the cowl, "egg out" a couple of holes that made the dash pad peak-up a little, etc., etc." "Then, put the front clip back on....Now that I have the correct rad. core support bolt/spacer/pad kit, that is." Made the drive seem shorter, for sure. There was some new (truck) trim at the door when I got home this evening.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I spent all day, from 11am to 8:30pm, cleaning my garage and working on my truck. I got the rear 5" springs in, but nothing else. My little 25 gallon air compressor wouldn't power my impact enough to remove the track bar or axle u-bolts.

Check the link he posted above. There are more pics, and the designer him-self, whom will be able to answer your questions to the fullest. Not that Andy can't.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
You sure its the compressor, and not the impact gun? I've used several of the basic impact guns that they include in the kits. I don't think they make much more than about 100 ft/lbs. Home Depot carries a nice IR impact that makes over 600 ft/lbs. That should be plenty to snap your lug nuts off.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
So what's the torque on your air gun? Last time I tackled the u-bolt nuts I used a 2' breaker bar and about a 250# deadlift effort. That's 500 lb-ft.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I wanted to restore the painted letters on my tailgate that were covered over 22 years ago when the truck was painted. I bought the vinyl letters on e-bay and began to install them. They give you one extra letter to practice with so I put on "chevr"........and then the "r" didn't look just right so i tried to adjust it.....that's when it pealed the paint off exposing about an inch of the old white letter, d@#$ it...so now I pulled off the other letters-wound up with no new letters and about three areas that pulled the paint off on a otherwise clean dark blue tail gate. sucks!

FFWD to today when the thing won't get up over 60 PSI. I pulled the head, and found where a piece of the plastic air filter holder had gotten in, screwed up the ring on the piston, and then the piston scuffed the hell out of the bore sleeve. What sucks even more is I saved up for a plasma cutter which will be delivered tomorrow, but with no compressor, I won't get to use it. Anybody know where I can buy a rebuild kit for a Craftsman compressor? A new sleeve and piston ring should get me by for the next 15 years... And people wonder why I hate loaning my stuff out... I did however get my radiator overflow bottle installed. It worked wonderfully, except I didn't fill it enough, the engine warmed up and purged all this air out, and maybe a cup or two of coolant into the resevoir. Once it cooled back down, it sucked the resevoir dry, and probably a bunch of air. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Painted out the "yellow tag" on the Vintage Air drier (showed thru the grille);
90% installed on the new grille (How the Hell do those square nylon expanding clips work?...I never can get them to work without shaving them); Installed sound deadner under the hood. Pulled and painted the plate for the "male" side of the hood latch; Installed "female side" of the hood latch on the rad core support and grille and grille center bracket. Light day. No pics today. Nothin' really to show.

My old compressor died too, but just from age. I replaced the compressor motor with one I picked up from Harbor Freight. 2 years and it is still running strong. In my case it was about the same price as rebuilding my old one.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Spent all day in the garage. Projects were successfully completed. I replaced the pinion and cover seal on the rearend, finished welding up and painting the rear bumper, replaced the melted dimmer switch and damaged wires, Installed a new headlight harness that uses relays right next to the battery, ran the wires for a set of foglights to be installed with the new front bumper, and yanked out all the rusty nasty old bolts that held the bed to the frame. I installed all new nice and shiny stainless steel ones.
And, the best part is that I still have more parts on the bench, and more stuff to do next week. I did scrape about 15 lbs of dirt encrusted grease off the bottom of the bed and the rearend, the pinion seal was leaking pretty bad. |

Yay. I got my windshield washer squirter things working. Ehh, they are so often overlooked until you really need them. Just working on getting this K10 to a friendly daily driver status. Don't get me wrong, I drive it more than anything else, its just that there are a few things that irritate me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I picked up a 69 K/10 awhile back to use in converting my 72 to 4x4. When I pulled the bed I found alot of rust on the frame and spring hangers. So being the frugal individual I am, I talked to my neighbor and he had a 71 C/20 with leaf springs down in his junkyard (yes I know there are differances in the C vs. K frames, but I could deal with that). I went over last night and drug it out of the weeds and cut the bed off. Went back this morning and torched the rails into behind the carrier bearing cross member and picked it up with the front end loader and carried it over to my place. We were flooded last year so the frame from the 71 was covered with mud. After knocking it off I found more rust, behind the front spring hanger on the drivers side, basically same place as on my K/10 frame. So I took it back and dropped it off in the junkyard where I got it from. Back to plan A (cutting down a 78 K/10 frame), but anyway here's some pics of the rust
![]() ![]() ![]() And what I found on the new frame! ![]() ![]()
