Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Mark,
Is epoxy as your preference something you decided after the fact? If not, did you install RaceDeck just to avoid the days of prep & application time? Has your RaceDeck been noisy? Did you put geo fabric under it or just place it directly on the concrete? Not directly related but this city - Glendora - has THE rockiest soil. People call the rocks, "Glendora potatoes". I spent hours digging out a 4x4, 2 feet deep hole to plant a 24" boxed avocado tree yesterday & today. Some of the rocks were as big as my head! A total b!tch of a job down on hands and knees. Yeah, it was in the 90's but still. It has me re-thinking if I'd even want to do the RaceDeck OR the VCT! I can tell you for certain I am never planting anything big here again!

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Dan I wanted to have the floors epoxied before we moved in, but it was too cold at the time. When I finally got around to doing something after15 years of use, it was easier and quicker to do the Racedeck. I put it down directly on the concrete. Footsteps are louder when you walk on it, but it's not objectionable.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
So Mark, because I’ve liked your taste in what you’ve done with your car & truck if you were just telling me to do one or the other you’d say do epoxy?
I’ve got to get an estimate for pro epoxy and a one for RD but if they’re similar and there’s no issue with moisture on my slab it’ll be a toss up.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Time was the primary consideration. Given the option, I'd do epoxy...

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
I get a case of garage envy when I look at your garage, BlackSheep. I have a two car garage and it seemed plenty big when I bought my house, but with a car and my truck in it, along with tools and jacks it doesn't have much working room.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Just to follow up about flooring - I've ordered True Lock HD Extreme ribbed ("for my pleasure" apparently? lol) floor tiles in Alloy, Red and Graphite.
Pro epoxy was going to be too expensive - too many other nice things I want to spend money on in the garage! I'm sure I can do the job myself but honestly, I didn't want to take the time to rent a concrete grinder, worry I'd done it right, worry about pot time on the epoxy, spreading chips evenly, etc. I'm too impatient and I want my cool looking garage to be - if not "done" - at least looking a LOT better soon. Today I started patching some rock pockets in the small stem walls - naturally they're ONLY visible on the wall you see most - and I'll paint it flat black. I started cutting in what I thought was a light gray - but it's too dark. A gallon of straight white and a five gallon bucket will solve this problem tomorrow. More pictures coming eventually. Feel free to comment. Damn,Something about a "missing security token" won't let me upload photos. I'll try again later

Products used/to be used:
LOTS of Sika and Sika Flex products used in all my years working for Metro on Light Rail projects so why not at home? I was a little leery of anything ready-made from Home Depot but it REALLY is an easy to use and good product!

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
And last, my failed attempt at cutting in "light" gray. Cut with another gallon of plain white it SHOULD be plenty light...I hope....or the gallon of custom mix gray is a waste. It looked plenty light in the store!!

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Maybe do the back wall dark gray, then add more white before doing the other walls. No matter what you choose to do, I know it will look great.

Anyway, a small truck detail: I finally got around to ordering a center console from Cupholders.com. They send swatches and I'm actually impressed the color (at least in my case) matches pretty well. This is the tall truck console. Top opens sideways toward the driver. About $125 delivered. Sorry for the lousy cell phone picture. EDIT! SEE BELOW, Bob fixed the picture.

2nd attempt: So intentionally rotating my otherwise correct photo to force the program to make it right didn't work. You'll just have to tilt your head!! Lol

If you have an iPhone, you can open the picture up, select "EDIT", then go in and rotate and/or crop the image and then save it. It has an icon that allows you to rotate it 90 degrees at a time.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Oh, thanks Bob! Very thoughtful of you. Actually, in this pic the flash went of so the color match looks worse than in real life. The flash also makes the console vinyl look shiny which it does not but it IS cheap vinyl compared to the nice stuff the upholsterer used on my seat. Very pleased.
For anyone coming along later: don't buy the more expensive spun aluminum or billet cupholders. The ones that come in it are plenty good enough unless you're doing a full on show truck. I spent the medium amount for the polished aluminum ones and shouldn't have.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Dan, that looks really nice in there. Don't feel bad about spending the little extra. On the cheaper ones, the fake chrome around the cupholders wears off within a couple months.

Good to know, Rick. Thanks.
EDIT: Update on the painting progress. Not that the forum is for this but what the heck, my truck needs a cozy place to sleep.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Haven't been back to this thread in a couple weeks. STILL working on the garage. Making progress but in inches.
Had to repaint the garage ceiling. Another 1-3/4 gallons of full flat to (hopefully) hide any differences in the absorption. Sink installed - I've never had a garage sink before. Found a CL deal for a short counter too w/integrated sink. Went off on a tangent buying a vintage metal kitchen base cabinet before deciding it is out of character so I'll resell it. My mini fridge fits so well under the sink stand! Painted pegboard the PO had installed. Added some more to match cabinet height. All this in addition to extensive work on the old house, trimming a million bushes here, yada, yada. Call me a waambulance! PS: Forgot to mention I sanded, primed and painted the cheap ass melamine cabinets dark gray which will go along with the flooring once I get to it.
