cool looking trucks all of you guys have and im very jealous. ive been thinking on slamming my 68 p/u lwb and kind of stumped on were to start (besides having hundreds or thousands of dollars on hand!!!) would it be best to save enough money to by a kit crossmember or chop a crossmember?
To Chop... or Not to Chop..... thats the question !!! can I get some feeback and opinion on where to start |

Thanks, I was pretty fond of it too! (Still am ). That truck is how my business really got started... our first complete build. It started out as a 'build-to-sell' truck, then my uncle bought it half-way through and paid for its completion. I believe it's still sitting in his garage up in Utah... probably a whole ten miles on it since we delivered it last summer... 'too nice to drive' .

I know how tough it sometimes can be to get out there and drive it. Fortunately, you're in luck as my daily driver needs some down time for a planned LS2 swap. I'd be willing to drive your uncle's truck during that time so the lifters don't dry out.

thanks for the feedback guys!!!! as far as skill goes thats not a problem. Ive been a welder for many years and love doing it!!! but for tools i still need a few things.
its funny how most welders weld at work but never seem to invest in a welder for the home.lol!!! soon i will be attending Wyotech in Laramie this April and hope to have time to slam my truck to the pavement while I'm there. More on planning of my truck went under way in 2005. I rebuild a sbc 327, which i know is a small power plant then i want, but it will work for now. I backed it with a Camaro World class T-5 5 speed transmission and at the moment having my drive shafts built. and plan to put a posi rear end. At least is a start and very proud of my truck. ill try to get some pics of my work in progress "A question for porterbuilt" what the price for a complete front end and what do you recommend for the rear suspension? |

The rear kit will be offered to plant the rear and match the front... your interpretation of 'short' is pretty close to mine! As for 'package deals' or 'builder discounts'... How does everybody else do it???? Spend $20K and get 10% off! There will definitely be a savings when buying the two kits together.

Well... if you've got an inline 6, you should check to see if you have the deep or shallow oil pan (deep appears to be most common on the 292, but I've found several 250's that had them as well). The deep pan actually hangs lower than the stock crossmember... and so PB's crossmember will also leave the deep pan exposed. How do I know about this deep pan? Hint: It is better to change the oil in the garage than in the middle of a rough road.

Hi everyone, Tony from norcal here. Just wanted to let everyone now I bought a Porterbuilt Dropmember yesterday. I can't wait for it to get to my house. Nathan is a very cool guy to deal with and gave me alot of good ideas towards laying my 64 out on 22's. I recomend this crossmember to anyone thinking about z'ing your frame urself. There is alot riding on your abilities when doing a z notch. This Dropmember takes the time, guesswork, and safety part out of laying frame on these style trucks. And if I could afford to buy it anyone can.
