Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I had to do a massive powdercoating job today but I did find some time for my own truck.

I cleaned and flushed the tank with muriatic acid and water mix. Then, I prepped the outside for powdercoating. After all of that nasty chemical stuff, I put it in the oven to cook it real dry inside and out. It's actually out there cooking right now at 300 degrees.

I'm waiting for my POR15 gas tank sealer to show up as well as new sending unit and gasket from Classic Parts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I mocked up the seat for my not yet introduced 64 project. A buddy from work did the upholstrey & didn't do bad @ all for a novice (his pops does it for a living & he's trying to get into it as well). The frame & box were powder-coated satin blk; the material is 02/03 Dodge Ram stuff. The seats are just setting on the frame for pics . .....

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

A little more progress on Jon C's big back window cab. Should be done by Monday night. If I could get my POS Sprint wireless card to maintain its connection, I would upload several more pictures. Note to self, do not buy anymore Sprint products.

Pulled the front brakes including backing plates to rebuild with new shoes, flex hoses, bearings, wheel cylinders and turned drums. Cleaned it all up to get ready to paint and reassemble.

I don't have one of them, but you might check your local auto parts store or www.truckandcarshop.com

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I am still working on my to-do list, figuring out what I am going to do and in what order. In the past couple weeks I have:

Gotten it legal,

Unpacked the spare parts the PO sent with the truck (some good stuff in there!)

Filled it up, and overflowed the tank (lesson learned on that one )

Ordered a 96X72 bed mat (the bed is already redone and I want to be able to use it as a truck sometimes)

Connected a second set of speakers that were in the boxes, then bought Kenwood and Pioneer Speakers off ebay to replace the ones in it now (It already has an aftermarket Pioneer sterio).

Took it to the car wash.

Bought an 80 gallon air compressor (still working on where exactly and how to install it as to least disrupt the house and neighbors.)

I won a new glove box door assembly on ebay today ( sorry if I was bidding against any of you).

Nothing picture worthy yet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Pulled off my square body fenders off of my stepside bed and figured out that my 55-66 fenders come no where close to lining up with the factory holes. Oh well minor set back. I will make a template and drill some new holes. After that I will get a 1'' strip of sheet metal and widen each fender 1''.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I'm still working on my gas tank. I figured out where it had been seeping on the bottom. So, I brazed it up. After that I powdercoated it in silver vein with clear. It's in the oven curing right now while I type this.

POR15 is giving me the beat down on my can of tank sealer. I ordered a bunch of different stuff Friday. All of it is delivered by today except the POR15. That's due to be delivered Monday. That's going to slow my progress down a good bit.

Still pushing like hell to get this thing on the road in the next few weeks. I want to take mama to get her Christmas tree in it.

the seats will pretty much match. I'm waiting to see your truck together. Are you using any other colors to break up all the orange?

i was super broke when i bought the paint. so i had them make them in rattle cans two cans 60 bucks. i already had plenty of clear so that was not a problem and i had the metal flake. i made a flake gun and got busy. this is really the first paint i have shot. i'm pretty proud of it.

Did some grinding on my front inner fender patch after I locked myself out of the house and had to wait on the wife to get home.

That flake work is impressive, especially for a first attempt. There probably isn't anybody on here that knows how to leave well enough alone. One thing always leads to another.

I remember when I got my 46 Ford back in the 80's. I was just going to steam clean the engine compartment and drop in a small block Chevy. But as long as I'm in there, might as well clean up this one thing. Next thing I knew all there was in front of the firewall was a pair of bare frame rails! Same thing with my truck, started a repaint a decade ago, and next thing there was nothing but an empty cab sitting on the frame. Took a year to paint everything and put it all back together.
