Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
What size tires and wheels are y'all running on your rigs? I have a 62 GMC 4X4 that I'm looking for new wheels to put under it. I want to go with 16" rims. I would love to know what you guys are running.
Thanks!! |

Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
I plan on getting 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrain tires but I don't know what wheels to get. 16x8 or 16x7 with what backspacing? I dont want it to stick out too much or look too skinny either
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
So your engine is around a 1960 283, is it fairly stock, looks like a nice clean rebuild on it, stock heads too.

Here is my 61, work in progress. Next step is to clean the frame up and then paint the bed I have to match. Not a bad score for $1000, runs great.

Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
I am fairly new to this site and finally sat down and checked out this thread from start to finish. There are a lot of sweet trucks out there. More than I would have guessed. I guess I better get out into the shop and get my butt going and get one finished myself. I have several factory 4x4s and some vintage photos of some family members pickups I will share. Here is my 65 K10 factory black truck I bought from the estate of the original owner. I got the protecto plate with it and it has the original numbers matching motor.

Here is my Great Grandpa's 61 apache circa 1980. Unfortunatly I didn't get this one. One of my uncles ended up with it and hasn't done anything with it for years.

Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
Here are a few photos of my wife's great aunt's 64 K10. These were slides we scanned and were dated 1969 and 1970. Enjoy. I couldn't get my 65 K10 black custom cab BBW photos to upload. I will try again later. Thanks for the great site. I sure am glad to know I'm not the only one who is crazy(about these trucks).

BLK65K10, that '61 Apache looks way cool. Would make an incredible restoration project. Got any pics of it now?

Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
Sodly, unfortunately I don't as it is in California with my great uncle and has been since the early 90's. I have talked to him and he still has it but I haven't seen it.
John, Thanks I am slowly becoming more computer literate. I still need to get down your way and visit you maybe this spring when the roads are a little better. Thanks Brad I wish it was still around. |

Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild
I will be going back to the fishing trailer soon. Want to pick up GMC 4X4. What to save and what to toss? The v6 goes in lue of big block, 4 speed for auto, knees can't do two sticks. Axles,??? Or sell whole and kill a non 4x4 and balls out?

You could just buy an auto GMC 4x4 and drive the wheels off of it. Save a lot of dough too. If you do swap the engine don't scrap it. Someone will definitely snag it up from you.
