Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got a visit from the Brown truck yesterday. New fuel tank and u-bolts and poly bushing for the trailing arms. Starting to fab up the fuel tank install. Hopefully I'll have pics tonight.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I pulled the original 4-speed out of the truck and removed the crossmember in anticipation of the upcoming suspension swap. I also cut out the old exhaust and removed about 10lbs of dirt and grime off the chassis. I'll break out the steam cleaner next weekend and really make a mess.

I started installing my new rear mount fuel tank. I'm not quite done yet but enough to post a couple of pix. What do you think?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

well yesterday the neighbor kid needed some money to go to the high school football game, so i had him chase tools and had him crawl under the truck with me and i showed him how to install the th350 i picked up.He seemed really interested and it helped me since im still on crutches...then today i rewired engine compartment and hooked up a set of headman headers, and put the edelbrock carb that came with the truck on,and got the motor to turn over and a couple backfires through the carb ,but carb needs to be rebuilt and was leaking all over the place, so i moved on to putting some 6x9's in the gapping door holes and installed a cd player .....i now have tunes!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I added some length to my exhaust. The duals dumped right behind the cab and echoed on EVERYTHING under the bed. Now, nice and quiet in the cab with a little bit of rumble outside... the way it should be. Now, maybe I won't get headaches from the roaring in the cab with me!!

How far back did you go with the exhaust.

The end of the muffler is in the center of the cab, but the pipe runs all the way out to the step on each side. Considering putting a X or H-pipe in it to balance it out. I dunno yet though.

Here is a picture of the mufflers and the drivers side extension i put on yesterday. Makes a world of difference inside the cab.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

You might also add a balance tube in the after muffler tubing between both pipes, near where the exit the mufflers.

In addition to or in place of an H-pipe before the mufflers? What does this do to the performance or sound? It is an all stock 350 with some headers, so I am not concerned with peeling the street back or anything. I just like a nice V8 sound out of these old trucks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I would have built an X pipe instead of a front balance tube, and then, add the rear balance tube to the after muffler/tail pipe setup.

This does help overall performance, and helps keep the system quieter, without making it sound like a Rolls Royce.

I am building this system for my 1964 Chevy C30 1 ton dually flatbed truck, with 305E V6. Have same on my 1972 all aluminum Rover V8 engined Vega.

X2
yes, it's an early mustang tank, 16 gal. It will not interfere with the track bar where I mounted it. The cross bars for the bed will have to be modified slightly but I really like the way in tucks into the frame with very little hanging down.

Hi Roberto, I didn’t see you post until I spotted Vernski’s reply this afternoon. The tail lights are aftermarket 1959 Cadillac, and the brackets were custom made by my son who’s a machinist.

I’ll pull together the component photos, install pictures and original drawings and try to get them posted later tonight. Thanks for asking, Mark.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Vernski and Mark,

Thanks for getting back to me LOL. By the way vernski love the stance on your GMC, did you use drop spindles too or just the springs?

Thanks for the info Mark, I look forward to seeing the write up about the caddy tail lights...

Well I worked and sweated all day disconnecting everything from my '61's 235 inline six, gonna remove it.....

On a seperate note I bought a c10 2wd SB rolling chassis for the axle/cross members and I am considering puttin my '61 cab and bed on it. Any thoughts?

Captainfab gave me some great insights, I'd just like more opinions.. Thanks guys for helping a guy out.

It's not that I am afraid of snakes... It's a game that I play... When I see a snake, I scream like a little girl and RUN. The farther away I get, the more points I award myself. And I have NEVER lost!!!
