Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

That is exactly how I shaved the seam on my '73. I was planning on tack welding the corners when I do the roof on my CC, just to be on the safe side. I have also used the 8115 to fill trim holes on a '94 Roadmaster I used to have. I used pennies as a backer, because I am lazy.

Those tires are killer. This truck is going to be insane when it is all together.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

I got the wheels mounted on the tires < the wheel shop was not able to balance them because they didnt fit on the machine.
I installed the bed for a moch up for the measurement of the new rear end , back side of the wheel to back side of wheel, minus a 1/2" for the brake rotors roughly at 1/4" each. I will have 2" clearance in the front from the lip of the fender and 3" on the back side from the frame. I will order a custom rear axle with Ford 9” big-bearing “Torino” (BBT) or “new style” housing ends, moser 31 spline axles.
here are the following specs

For the center section i will run a track lock posi with 4.11or + gears.
As for the rear suspension i will use Ridetechs 4 link with their new adjustable coilovers.
For the rear brakes i plan on running big breaks from a C6 z06 style 340x26mm 13.4" with 4 piston calipers
Here are a few pics of the moch up

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

WOW...SEXY!!!

Question though. Won't a 3.70 gear with that 31" tall tire and the 4L60e trans have a very low highway speed RPM? Just doing the math it seems like it would be better with a 3.90 or possibly a 4.10 final drive. That's the luxury of a Ford 9", lots of gear choices.

Anyhow, Man... It is looking awesome!!!

That is one sexy looking view from the back. Always have liked those views the best on the ladies though.

I agree I previously had 4.10 and i really like how it cruised on the highways might just stick to 4.10's

You have quite a bit of rubber out back and at 31" tall you might want to look into going with a 4.57 gear instead. 60 mph is only 2080 rpm so it is still going to be pretty low rpm on the freeway. If you drive in the car pool lane in LA you will only be running 3120 rpm at 90 mph. You will be aerodynamically limited before you run out of gear.

Look for the 4.57 gears vs. the 4.56's as the 4.57 has fewer teeth on both the ring gear and pinion so they are a little tougher.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Im also waiting on the rear brakes I only bought the rear set up due to incuficent funds will convert the front eventually.
Their from a C6 z06 style. On the rear 340x26mm 13.4" with 4 piston calipers No Ebrake.
I am sertain I will need a spacer between the wheel and hub to clear the caliper, so i got some Arp 1/2x 3" wheel studs hopefully that will be enough

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

Thanks, the wheels and tires are Mickey Thompsons and i got them online thru Summit the tires were $400 each plus $30 each for oversize shipping. The wheels HR1 were i think $1,250 each. on the rear i got 20x16 with a 5" back space bolt pattern is 5x4.75 they dont make these on 5x5. Tires are Sporsman SR 31x18x20.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

The 4 link arrived today I opened up the box and everything was wraped in foam. The quality of this kit is superb it arrived with no scrathes on the shiny stainless and the tig welds are very well done. I didnt get a chance to measure the lenghts will post that info later.
