Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Stripped all the wiring out of the engine bay and cab except one little bundle. Cleaned all the sounddeadener out of the cab as well. There's some rust but really the rust is no where as bad as I first thought.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished the install on my fuel tank and then removed everything to get ready to spray rust encapsulator on the frame and other stuff. I found out my rear axles were toast so instead of redrilling for 5 lug I went over to Dutchman's and ordered 2 new axles. Also cleaned up the brake backing plates and the rear end for paint. Hopefully I'll have the rear frame and components painted by this weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Oh......by the way I ripped up my wood bed on my '61(dont worry not orig. but plywood) and it was a bear......

Amazing how easy it is to remove, ahem get a bed ready to be to be removed....

A couple truck buddies of mine came over and to my dismay I cant use my frame, previous owner "chopped" tail end off the long bed chassis,

to put "new" bed on so one of em said they'll give me a '62 frame(aka roliing chassis)....I got some cool friends . Will be way easier to do the swap on I think...So my '61 Chevy will be riding o n a '62 GMC frame..

Anyone know if there were major differences on the GMC from the Chevy???

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Evaluated mounting options for the new steering wheel. While I know it will be a bit of work, I think it will be well worth it in the end.

It will be in almost 2" from where it is in this picture.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

The wheel is from a 2008 Cadillac CTS. At this time, I am not using the column, just the wheel and clock spring. I need to make a cover for the middle still, too.

The column that goes to this wheel is not just tilt, but telescopic as well. It also has heat and cool for the wheel (tied to the seats in the car, not the truck). I still have all the hardware to do the heat/cool in the seats if I want to try something with it later. But for now I just want the buttons to work.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Vernski,

Here's my '61 truck as it stands now....Gonna remove the paint ultimately and spray some flat blue that I've seen on other trucks on this forum, rust zero "safety blue".....

I was going to start on the removal of the front clip but dont have room to store it while waiting for my "new" frame to come('62 gmc)
Tell me what you think....Oh by the way I want to drop it like you did your's

Thanks el_bole
P.S. Notice the chop on the rear, frame was shortened to customize rear...thats why my bud says I need a "new" frame

Yeah I see the plates 7B is Bonner county and the next county north of us enjoy the spuds. The sheet metal on your truck looks straight so that's a plus. I got the 3" dropped coil from DJM they have the same spring rate as the stock springs and I can't tell much difference from the stock one just sits 3" lower. Do you have coils on the rear? There is a variety ways to lower the rear, one is Jeep coils another is trailing arm blocks. You can google for DJM online and look over what they sell for your truck...Vernski

I was stationed at Coronado Island for a while. Loved the area and hung out in Imperial City a lot! The lamplight district downtown (micro-breweries) got me in the "mix" with MPs a few times!!!

Talking Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I worked at Naval air station North Island as teen for a summer....

Yes I am blessed to live here, one of the rare few who are born and raised here.

Yup good beer down town....

A couple times I dont remember how I got home coming from there

What kind of paint did you use on your stepside? Is it just primer?
Im thinking of painting mine "safety blue(by zero rust) and painting the top half of cab cadillac escalade blue(kinda of metallic)...

Going to hit the hay because I got to face a class full of know it all teens in the AM....Wish I use a baton like an MP to at least threaten them ,just joking.....

That truck has tons of potential with the shortened long bed. Are you taking it back to stock?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Me a wire brush and my grinder dug into the floor boards. Got my work cut out for me. Some one put some patchs in. They just didn't bother with cutting the old floor out first. Ill start a build thread in a few days, just for kicks.
