Ya'll would be interested until I told you what you needed to bring,......sanding blocks

I don't like days like today. I spend 7-8 hours sanding, sanding, and more sanding. I did get the dash ready for primer. I'm trying to get the cab ready to prime the final time. I had forgotten about all of the little spots that needed attention. Since the dash took so long. Seam seal still needs to be finished. These pictures are about as boring as this post.

Digging the old seam seal out (sand blaster doesn't get it). Repairing pits from deep surface rust.

Alan, the photos are not boring at all. Those of us that cannot get to our projects for whatever reason, really enjoy seeing the progress you are making. Even if it does not feel like much to you. Keep the updates coming.

I couldn't get off of my arse today, still enjoying the vacation. My motivation came at about 10pm. I got a little done just to uncover that there is alot to do before I can sling some paint.

I've been debating to myself........Should I block this opening up. For some stupid reason I think it would be a good cold air intake. More than likely I would never do it. I think I'm trying to find excusses not to do it. I'm thinking of just painting the block off plate.



Located another fuel door with filler neck off of a F**d Ranger.



Driver door still lumpy. Going to spray slicksand on it. I believe it will fill enough so it can be blocked out then primed.



Blocked on the roof and discovered a butt print. Slicksand might cure that problem as well.

If you aren't likely to use it, IMHO it would look better welded up and finished rather than just painting the block off plate. You've done an outstanding job this far, it would just not fit the look of the rest of the truck with the block off plate. Just my .02

I was just thinking about that motor.....Yeap, that would be an awesome idea to run it as a cold-air intake.

I would defiantely consider it....plus you would keep the cowl free of leaves and crap !!

Thanks Jon for helping me realize my vision. We need to change your name to the "Picture vault". You have some of the most unique pix. That 2nd pic is a 409 Impala, right? Do you know the year? I guess a 64.

Now does anyone have an air cleaner like that laying around.

Thanks to everyone else for their input. I'm so confussed. I like the cold air intake idea, but afraid it will take away from a nice and clean engine bay. If done right it might add to the appeal. I've never seen one done to this style truck. I'm sure Jon might have a pic.

The roof, LT door and dash got some Slick Sand sprayed on them

I was told by a painter that it's not a primer. The label says it doesn't need to be sealed prior to topcoat. It's like a sprayable filler to remove minor imperfections. Once I block it I will prime then block with 400. It's cheaper than primer and metal glaze. It applies evenly minimizing sanding. It is thick and requires a 2.0 gun tip. It can be thinned a little like I had to do tonight due to being 55 degrees.

You won't want an original pre-69 cowl induction air cleaner. . .... they're freakin' outrageously expensive. I've seen the 'common' units (big block Chevelles) listed on the auction type venues for $3K...... used! The aftermarket units made aren't cheap either @ $1500+ .

I think a better option would be one of the NASCAR 'used parts' places. You should be able to pick up a used NASCAR style air cleaner shroud & adapt it to your firewall (NASCAR cars get their cool air from the firewall/base of the windshield). They're made from both aluminum & carbon fiber & usually go for less than $150.

This is only the second time I have used Slick sand. So far I love it.

Thanks for the info. I will contact the old ARCA race team I used to work on to see if they have any old ones laying around.
