Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

The pinch weld doesn't bother me except that on both my trucks the PO's have managed to drop them on jacks or something. 3 of 4 are mangled in one place or another. I tried bending them but NO luck; very tough metal layered together in that area.

The front of the bed is a little high in this pic but it will be fixed this weekend.

What do you guys think about cutting or shaving off the pinched seam under the rocker? I don't like looking at it down there but it seams like if the truck is dark it disappears.
I love the stainless steel look of your truck I'd try to keep it silver... and about the seam under the rockers I'd say shave'm...

Clear coat that puppy and call it done. I've always liked that look of bare metal.

However that silver color looks really nice on that thing.

Are you going to skim coat that truck or is it ready to paint the way it is? Wish mine was that straight.

Just do it. I'm shaving everything I can. Even in the door jams I'm shaving all the seams. I agree about the plain looking shaved drip rails. I think mine will look awesome when done.

That would be nice but there's a few patch panels and some dents I couldn't fully straighten with a hammer and dolly. My skills are limited so filler will help hide my inexperience with body work. I love how it looks and I'm thinking of painting it flat silver.

I've got the low spots filled so when I'm ready I'll hit it with slick sandd(high build primer) block it straight and then paint. I've got to get the rest of the cab sripped first.

I might have to copy your drip rails. Not sure yet. I would love to see some more shots of yours, especially where they round the corner in the back of the cab.

Great shots on smugmug. You do nice work. What wire were you using? I've got my machine loaded with .025 right now. Should I get some .030 or stick with what I've got for filling that gap?

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I've been trying to finish up the bed the last few days. I'm not done yet but it shouldn't be long now. I cut a quarter inch out of my 3" square tube bed mounts so the bed would line up with the cab and it came out perfect. I reenforced the rear mounts that sit on the back of the frame with a plate on top of the mount and ran a 7/16 bolt all the way through. I still have to finish welding in the rear angle that the bed wood will sit on next to the tailgate. Next I'll be welding up the holes left from the center stake pocket and fitting the fender wells.

Dropped the pan hard bar in and started welding up the center stake pocket plugs in.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I was thinking about those stake holes this weekend watching 'Trucks'. They left the center stake holes, looked funky to me. Thought about your build....

Looking awesome as always Greg! Can't wait to see more...

Thanks, Joe. I caught that too. Makes me glad I decided to fill mine. After raising the bed floor up the fender wells would have hit the bottom of the stake pockets so I pretty much had to take them out. I'm hoping to get some more done this week and I'll post as I go.

Thanks Greg
I've been busy and haven't been keeping up much with this forum. .025 is good for sheet metal. On frames I usually use .030, but I was too lazy to change the spool and used .030.
BTW you do nice work also.

Thanks Bill! Just like everyone else, I planned on being finished with it a year ago. Seriously though, I hope to have all of the metal work done and be in primer before it gets too hot this summer. Mid May is what I'm shooting for, but if you read back through my thread you'll see a few other deadlines that I missed.

Very inspirational thread! I vote silver also. You'll be much happier on hot days for not choosing black...

Thanks. It's all still up in the air. I've decided to go a different direction in the engine compartment. I'll be posting pics pretty soon. Stay tuned.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Shruken,

Sweet truck. Could you tell me/us the year model on the blazer gas tank? And is it S10 or Fullsize? My guess is not S10.

Color wise go black and/or flat. I am thinking seriously about doing my whole truck gloss black and the front end grill easy tape off part, grill, headlight rings, and front bumper a flat gray w/ dark gray wheels.

That sounds cool. I've been thinking of a combination gloss/flat look myself. Almost the opposite of what your doing though. I got the tank at a junk yard and they told me the blazer was an 81' K5 full size.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I bought the same gas tank from Pick A Part. After I pulled it out I noticed that they punch a hole in it to drain the gas out. I didn't notice it while laying on the ground. Oh well the price was right. I welded up the hole, and tested it for leaks.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

My tank may be on the way out because of the new fuel requirements I'm going to have shortly. I think I'm going to end up with a baffled custom stainless tank. I'll post pics next week and this will all make more sense.
