Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Started the rebuild of the rebuild. In case you missed it search "disaster".
I decided not to restrip the cab because most of the ugly is just surface flash rust from the fire hoses and burnt material in the shop. I'll just hand sand most of the cab with some scotchbrite pads and use a portable blaster with some gentle media, like walnuts or soda in the cracks and difficult areas. The entire front suspension and disc brake system will need to come off and either be cleaned or replaced. The very front of the frame will need powder coat touchup, if that's possible. The engine will need some looking into and damaged parts replaced. The transmission should be OK. The Entropy LS radiator will have to be replaced, the new alternator, water pump, new compressor and all the new pulleys on the front of the engine will need replacing. Luckily my new wiring harness and the LS computer and engine harness were not harmed. The Vintage Air system is probably junk also. To break up the boring sanding I worked some on my big truck grill. It's all chromed and all I need to do is black out the tie bars between and below the letters and pull off the tape. It should really pop when complete. All in all, it could have been much worse. Someone could have been severely injured or worse and the truck could have been destroyed. It's just more work and that's OK. Dean |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Picked up the last of 5 trucks that I have bought from around the State. This truck is the best so far. The inner fenders are near perfect, under a layer of rat dropping.. It has the rear steps in the bed that I need too.. So I think I have everything I need to put the front end on... But the love bank is empty again so off on a couple of trips and then maybe I can put it together...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Set the timing and I got my exhaust finished up, rear trans mount (to keep tail shaft off the e-brake pivot). Started wiring up the fan relay and started fabbing up my ECM mounting bracket. TPI swap is almost complete.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
got more paint & decided against doing the lower stripe & just go with black, and the 'panel' white.. the painting will come tomorrow!
Digital painting is fun enough though - if u wanna see the original, it's linked in the "PJ" text of my signature. We're missing a 'tooth' (push-bar) up front, so i figured I'd leave out the 2nd one.. lol If I have any luck tomorrow, it'll look something like this (minus the roof, because I'm short & don't have ladder).. when i'm done O_o OH, and we found that the front signals are jerry-rigged into place, and the passenger tail-light is siliconed to death, so it's going to be a b*tch to get out, so I can paint behind em.. I suppose I'll have to do alot of taping tomorrow <_< I haven't asked him if he wants me to paint the wheels tho.. (but that's just me being a girl & wanting stuff to match)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Last night after work I got the new master cylinder and booster in with my custom made bracket. The lines are hooked up and the distribution block bracket remounted. The custom made linkage for the pedal fits perfect but I cant' get my hand in there to put the nut on the back of the bolt which connect the two..will have to drop the entire ebrake assembly to put it on...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Blew out the manual transmission last week driving to work. I was trying so hard to baby it so I could drive it to the transmission shop, now it will have to be towed.
Today my friend Joe came over and put disc brakes and a duel power brake booster on. Brakes are amazing now. Thanks Joe, you did an incredible job. Too bad my 3 speed transmission couldn't hold up for one more week to try them out. I'm putting a 700r4 in next week. I can't wait to drive her again, it's going to be like a brand new truck |

We haven't gotten much done on our 'Burb. We decided to open up our shop as a full time business, so been putting it all in place. Hopefully will pick back up where I left off a couple weeks ago.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally got around to modifying my brake pedal. An idea that I got from doobiebro. I cut the small pedal off my 64's swing arm and welded on a larger pedal from a 73 C10. I got a little a head of myself here, I don't have the disc brakes installed yet but they're on their way. I grabbed a disc brake suspension form an 85 C10, installed all new poly bushings, got 2-1/2" drop spindles from CPP, my Raybestos Professional Grade ball joints arrived yesterday and my 6 lug rotors have been ordered and are on their way.
When I got everything all together the brake pedal looked crooked to me, needless to say I was miffed. With the truck sitting level in the garage I set my angle finder on the brake pedal and its right on the money. It still looks crooked to me tho. Thanks doobiebro, I sure like your idea. That's what I like about this site there is so much information here and everyone is always willing to help & share what they've learned. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Nice lookin upgrade. The reason it may look crooked is because of your eye being distracted by the angle of the gas pedal. I know what you mean though, things that are not plumb, level and square make me nuts. Like pictures on the wall in a doctor's office. They always seem to be at least 5 degrees off level!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
linkbeltOE,
So how did the disc brake installation go? Fairly easy, or did you have to make a "few" adjustments? Inquiring Minds want to know? I also want to ad rear discs in the future. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I took my first ride in my 63'. Just got the brakes working and it actually stopped! Had to drive it home from the seller's place two weeks ago with a tow vehicle who provided braking. Tow vehicle no longer needed..
