Re: 70 CST time capsule
I found the 396 badged as a 400 odd. I thought they were either 396 or 402?
I also didn't knwo they painted the wood beds. That makes sense I guess. Orignal paint or not, it's a beaut and I'm sure it will go for big bucks with all the paperwork.

Re: 70 CST time capsule
It didn't sell at $18.5K, having failed to meet the reserve price.
Now, it is worth more than that? Apparently the sellers think so, but I'm not so sure that taking it to an auction like Kruse (for instance) wouldn't reveal the true worth of the vehicle. It's nice, to be sure, but we can pick at it and fault it for several things, if we look closely. I'm not going to nitpick at this point. It's nice to see a clean, decent "Uncle Daniel" vehicle. If you ain't familiar with the Uncle Daniel thing, you didn't read R&C back in the late 60's, early 70's. They'd show a vehicle on the streets, being used as originally intended, yet unrestored and decent to look at. My truck, for instance, is a survivor.....not an unmolested, pristine example, but one that has continued to be a truck. Used/abused/appreciated for what it is. Lowered, but quite servicable. Whoever buys this truck will squirrel it away, and not drive it out of fear of someone running into it. But, we must remember.....how much money would it cost to make YOUR vehicle look that good?

Re: 70 CST time capsule
Outstanding Truck. Alot of good reference pics for the FAQ.
I didn't know they painted the wood in the beds. The One ton Duelly Longhorn I found had a painted bed but, I thought it was the PO whom repainted the truck and had the bed done to match. Good Info. Shows that you still learn a little something everyday. I think I still like the Non painted wood ones better. Respectfully

Re: 70 CST time capsule
it isn't a 396.
After the end of the 69 model year, GM never built a 396 big block chevy gas engine again. it was marketed as a 396 in the muscle cars, becouse it already had a kick ass reputation, but every single one of them was a 402. Now, why they badged a 402 as a 400.... no one has ever been able to explain. |

My ashtray in my 72 had overspray on it as well and I'm certain it was original.

Re: 70 CST time capsule
My Dad bought a new 70 model and it had the round head mirrors. It was a white truck so the mirrors were completly white. I learned how to drive in that truck about 73 or 74.

Re: 70 CST time capsule
Very, very clean truck. I think description stretches its original paint, etc. A couple small "whats ups" for me. Did our trucks ever come with dual exhaust new? Pedal pads on brake and e-brake not cst version. 36 yr old rubber bacnd still hanging? Come on this is a stretch (no pun intended). I would have to see that one personally. I deal in many old 30-50 yr old paper files and see old rubber bands all the time. They are at least brittle if not rotten. Granted the new ones only last a yr or 2 and older ones hold up better. With the condition of bare metal and no surface rust would mean this trukc had to stay so dry that its hard to believe.
I am not picking apart the product, I would love to own this one and put in my personal touches. My style is to tell all I know and let truck sell itself.

Good eye on the pedal trim... I missed that personally. A couple "whats ups" that grabbed my eyes; the wrong radio knobs for a CST model the mirrors on the doors... if I'm not mistaken, 70 model would have rectangular heads on those arms... not the old style round head. Plus the body color arm with a white head... dunno if it's right, but I've never noticed that in the past either. The fact that the tailgate trunions are painted, but the stay lines are not grabbed my attention, but I don't know weather or not this is right or way off base. The jack seems to show more wear than the whole truck... that grabbed my eyes The chalk on the firewall is awfull bright, and I've always seen the model number on the passenger side, not on the dvr... but that couldjust be plant to plant variation. Under the hood some items look too new while others look exsesively worn for the claimed miles and originality. The radio antenna is on the wrong side of the cowl, and not the right style The build sheet being removed from the seat cushion and the carpet tag pulled out seem odd, esp given the condition of them... looks liek they were removed on day one, and preserved in a climate controlled no humidity room of sorts. None the less.... this DOES look to be pretty original, but maybe the claim of 100% minus rims is streaching it. |

Re: 70 CST time capsule
I agree with others in that it at least looks mostly original. The only thing that really jumps out at me is the firewall markings...they do look a little too new, but who knows. Also, like others have said, just because it has overspray, doesn't mean it's not original. As far as I know, no trucks, or even cars had perfect paint jobs back then.

Re: 70 CST time capsule
OK, the radio and antenna things.... there is no radio on the SPID label... however, it looks pretty correct and the papers look right... probably a dealer installed unit.

Re: 70 CST time capsule
I think it is a beautiful truck and worth every penny but the thing that grabbed me when I saw they said original is the glove box id tag
I have pulled tons of those off glove box doors and they all had a clear laminate over them. This one is missing pieces of the tag but seems to have the clear over it. Also thought it looked like someone burned the paper on one of those pic to give it that aged look

Re: 70 CST time capsule
If I had the $$$ I'd bring 'er back home to her home state where she belongs!
Looks like the real deal to me. My wife from the area remembers the dealership in Minot. I was wondering about the firewall markings too. Looks like someone brightened them up to bring them out. The overspray on the ash tray raised an eyebrow with me too. It's possible it's factory but I've never seen it. A CST should have trim on all the pedals as mentioned. Sweet truck on the whole. $18K sounds like a lot for a non AC, Non PS/PB. The BB/auto should help run the price up though.
