Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

Check in parts, you can buy a Highlander brochure from a member. The thread just arose from last spring again. The roll bar was an option, not deleting it.Cruise control was available as a factory option of dealer installed accessory. There was a brush guard as part of the accessory offerings. The behind fenderwell tanks were aftermarket.A rare option was posi in front and winch was offered and rare to find.Hand throttle was part of the package.A rare delete option on standard K/5s was a solo-seating option.

I didn't think you could get a front posi in these.

I saw an 8-track tape player in the accessory book. Was this available from the factory, or just provided as a dealer installed accessory?

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

sorry I have to wake this dead thread because I think it has good information, but also because I think its hilarious that my Blazer, as a factory option, has door edge guard trim. Door Edge Guards??? I cant believe this was something that made my parts tag. only one is left on the blazer too, i would have guessed all day long that they were a dealer add-on before I actually saw the ID tag on the glove box door.

Anyone else have strange optional extras?

Other than the funny door edge guards my blazer is pretty generic.

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

Hey Guys, I have a 71 Black duel interior dome light double wall top. Have not ever seen one on this site or the MANY shows across the country I have been too.

To be honest, I have always wondered:

This this top REALLY rare???? or has this top been customized? Not sure, however i know for a fact that this top had not been cut or opened up.....

Either way, curious what you guys think? Nick

The throttle knob was the first cruse control you could use to hold a certain speed un like cruse control when you braked it had to be pushed in.

I think they were 16" wheels - that's what is on my SPID. Soft tops were a GM sanctioned and dealer installed option - at least in 71 and probably a pretty rare purchase. A roll bar (or a swing away spare tire carrier for that matter) was never a sanctioned GM option nor was it shown as such in any GM brochure that I've seen. Both were simply aftermarket add-ons.

16" would be rare too, hadn't seen those listed on a SPID as a GM option....but 16.5" wheels were an option as shown here:

Didn't know you could get 16.5 and 16" wheels. Here is a copy of my SPID:

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

Has anyone here ever seen one of the original dealer-installed soft tops (as opposed to one of the current aftermarket ones)? The one pictured in the Chevy and GMC sales brochures looks very cool but I've never seen (yet) a truck for sale that has one.

That would be cool to see the casa grande in real life.

My 72 had the stock soft top on it when the previous owner bought it. He said it was junk so he threw it away. Kinda sucks I may have been able to save it or restore.

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

Mine had the dealer soft top but the previous owner threw it away because it had holes in it. I wish he would have saved it. I can't even read my rpo codes on my glove box. You guys have some good options on yours. I don't think a lot of trucks came with the tach dash or intermittent wipers.

Was the Speed-Minder availible in the Blazers? I had one in my '67 truck and is the only one I've ever seen. Too bad I didn't know how rare it was before I sold the truck.

The throttle control was a factory option. It was never intended as a cruise control,or to be used while driving. On trucks through the years hand throttle controls have been used to raise idle for PTO use, charging,or other times a higher "set" idle was needed temporaily.

Yeah,16" was an option on all CK5-CK10. It's funny...there weren't actually wheel options. The option was the tire and the wheel was what was required to make that happen. Wheels were wheels, just a matter of number of hubs and diameter. Floatation (wide) tires had begun to be used,so the factory started offering an option. But,again, just a wheel like any other wheel, except the width lug pattern and diameter needed for the special tires. There were flotation 15s being made, but it was probably something about who they had the contract supplying tires. As far as I know,Armstrong was the only large tire company making wide 15" truck tires and they didn't supply GM,that I've ever known of.

8-track was a GM accessory. You could get a front posi, and that's why people don't think they were offered...They are rare!

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

You are correct the throttle nob was put on for PTO'S but the Pipeliners that i ran with used them on there long drives of coarse this was not the safest thing to do with it. I think the tilt wheel and I even saw a rig with 396 in a 1 ton later called a 400 big block. That was the only chevy truck that I have ever seen the 396 badge I think it was a new 69.

Mine has (had) factory black top (white on the inside), manual throttle, and front and rear shoulder belts.

...and a bunch of dealer installed stuff, like roll bar, rear tire carrier, coilover shocks, tow hooks but they don't look like the coveted ones I see pictures of, oh and rubber pad bumper gaurds.

Re: Rarest 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy Factory Options?

Has anyone ever heard of blazer window delete doors? I have never heard of them nor seen them, but I have spoken to someone who said they came like this from the factory and most blazer enthusiasts have never heard of them. I don't know what window delete totally means. Just vent window? Im in the process of trying to get pictures to find out

dont know that I ever heard of that either. Only thing I can think of that I’ve seen was the open blazer without a top that had a cover over the top of the window hole that blocked it off and had only a wing window.
