Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
I just replaced the floor pan, rockers, corners, A-pillar extensions, and inner foot wells. Lots of work but nice to have a full floor, to answer your question the inner rocker is part of the floor pan.

Use the advanced search feature and search Rocker Repair, Rust Repair, Rocker Replacement, ect. The search toggle is in the upper blue bar, click the drop down arrow and then advanced search, you can search for posts or threads.

Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
You don't have to replace the whole floor unless rust is "way" up into it. They sell outer floor extensions.
This is a thread from '97 before we had a paint & body forum where such questions get attention from body experts

Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
That's what is nice about this forum you can search and find answers from way back and bring them back to life. I actually enjoyed seeing this thread last night because I am about to tackle my own cab soon. Nothing like a good refreshment.

I agree. The OP started in 2007, last post was 2016 and now I'm using it for pointers some 14 years later

Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
My advice is to use a factory assembly manual as it shows all the spot welds on the rocker panel, about 37 of them if I remember well. Use original equipment rocker panel if available as they fit exactly and you won't have trouble with door fitment. Eastwood has a tool for removing spot welds. When putting on new panels a spot welder helps or do plug welding the panel to the inner panel. after done use lots of rust proofing both inside panel as well as outside. Hope this helps.

Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
As far as the rust proofing goes, when I finished welding in rockers I primed the panels and used Eastwoods rust preventer with the plastic hose extension and sprayed behind rocker using access hole on front of panel.

Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
Mostly good advice on this thread and having recently done this work, nothing to really add that has not been said. Except, one piece of advice for anyone doing this work in the future: If your outer rockers are rusted through, then ASSUME that the inner rockers, the lower door hinge (A) post, the rear jamb post, and kick panel will also need attention. So, go ahead and buy all those patch panels at the start. Also, go ahead and order a 24"x24" sheet of 18ga metal...you will probably need it for smaller custom patches.

Thanks. I think they have something called a "360 wand". I'll have to get one of those.

Re: Any Tips on replacing rusted outer Rocker Panels??
My attempt at rust proofing is to spray the back side of all patch panels with high temp paint (rattle can). The hope is that the paint withstands the heat of welding and does not burn off as readily. Spraying a rust preventative later is probably a good idea as well.
