yep, they got rid of em when cats came along, thats why only heavy series trucks, over 8600lbs. had them after that, 9no emissions required).
Slonaker mentioned the taller frames. I never really saw a need for the upper piece (brace)and that is the only thing different on 3/4 or 1 tons because they are longer for the taller frame.
A Good source is dead diesel trucks and there are plenty of those around.
If the bolts are original they shoould be 7/16 diameter with a 5/8 head but i've unbolted a lot that had only the 3/8 bots with 9/16 head.

Re: which trucks have the double hump crossmember?

thanks Slonaker for posting the link. I was about to post that. I did not run the supports for about 5 years and it was a 454/4 speed truck that I didn't mind abusing... OFTEN. They are overkill, I only put them on there because I had the opportunity.

I hesitated putting the link up because it uses your bandwidth. I didn't want to put it on my site since it is your photo. I compromised by using a link rather than inlining it. I figured it was probably okay since you were inlining it in other threads on the topic...

Those top bolts for the side brackets are a really big pain. You have to pry up on the cab floor to get them in and out. I will try and get the picture up friday.

Really? The bolts on mine came up from the bottom...so I simply put a wrench on the nut (top of the frame), and loosened the bolts from underneath.

Re: which trucks have the double hump crossmember?

The other option if the bolts head is on top of the frame is to undo the cab mounts and lift the body about an inch. Thats how I did mine when i swapped from a granny 4 speed to a Turbo 400

Re: which trucks have the double hump crossmember?

Mine were easy enough to get to without messing with the cab floor. I put washers and nuts on them to keep them from rattling around until I could figure out what they were for. The angled brackets don't look they would be much trouble to put in using an air ratchet on the bottom side.

Re: which trucks have the double hump crossmember?

73-75 pickups 1/2T- up (maybe 76, can't remember)
76-up 3/4T up pickups.

How much, it really depends. $75?

Re: which trucks have the double hump crossmember?

Where did you get "these & those?" I have the non-double-hump cross member and I just don't feel like scrounging around for another crossmember at this point in time, but I am considering dual exhaust with headers.

I wouldn't mind seeing the photos of the install so I can see how you used the offsets.
