Re: Off-road Carnage

I never broke anything going off road yet. One time though, a buddy of mine was following me. I had my 89 toyota, independent front suspension, he had his bronco II with the TTB. We were going down a trail that was covered in water, I heard a rock smack something on his truck and after we got through the water we checked it out. His front pumpkin got hit right in the middle and cracked it almost in half. He was done for the day, but was able to drive out from where we were at in 2wd. He had to replace the axle.

There are some advantages to IFS.

Re: Off-road Carnage

I've got a pretty good tear in my t-case x-member from our last outing. We can't belive how the 1/4" thick material ripped like a beer can. I'll go snap some pics of it later and post them up...

Cant go wheeling anywhere anround here right now. Its too damn hot and dry. A lot of places are officially off-limits because of fire danger. BUT, just wait untill we get some rain.....I cant wait.

Maybe I'll set up some ultra-lame at home poser shots and post them soon on the action pix sticky....maybe.

Ford or not, it's still a stronger axle set up.

After better than 4600 post's,
I think I'm pretty aware it's a chevy site too.

Glad I got your attention web wheelers, now post up more carnage!

How about a quick peek of my 'fix'?

Re: Off-road Carnage

I'll get right out and see what I can tear up with my week old jimmy right after I replace the fuel filter Something tells me body damage is first followed by either the motor, tranny,or rear end..Guess then there is an excuse for a 14 bolt f.f. rear,eh?

Re: Off-road Carnage

I don't have any pics of the carnage but in the pic above I only have front wheel drive, notice the dirt on the rear tires is heavier than the fronts?

This is at the Rubicon 2002 and I just got back from Moab like 3weeks earlier with no brakedowns and I DROVE MY K5 from Cali to Moab and back.
Anyway 50ft into the GateKeeper I busted my driver's side front axel U-joint. So I put it in 2x4 and I had to wheel forward about 15ft over a rock to get to a clearing so I could repair my Ujoint...NOT...my rear drive line snapped off at the diff yoke..BANG driveline hits the floor boards. Now I have no frontwheel or rearwheel drive.
Oh by the way I had a massive hangover...
Anyway I got the front ujoint fixed and while trying to get out in front wheeldrive I bent my front driveline on a rock..didn't brake just bent it...I was able to get out and drive/limp up to the lake shore and camp/getdrunk for the night...

I try not to brake that offen and if I do brake something I replace ALL the parts with BIGGER STRONGER FASTER parts..hahahah I had blow-by in one of my cyliners in my 350 engine and I replaced it with a FI454...that otta give you an idea on how I have built my K5 or how it has gotten to were it is now..
Thats my story...

Re: Off-road Carnage

Great story "as always" Burt.

I found the time to dig into my passenger side knuckle and go figure...IT HAS A CRACK TOO

Imagine loosing both knuckles out wheeling at the same time.

Doesn't matter now, their both orange.

Great story....it has inspired me to fess-up to a little fact that might shed some light on why I havent posted very much lately.

I got into a little trouble with the state patrol and now technically I'm only allowed to drive my one car with the ignition interlock device. (breathalizer) If anyone wants to preach to me on the evils of drinking ang driving, dont bother...I totally agree. I made a mistake and I'm paying for it. By no means have I ever claimed to be a saint but **** happens. The judge was at least impressed by the fact that I've had the same job for 15 years and have owned a home for almost as long.

So, unless I want to spend $70 a month (for a year) for each breathalizer I want in what I want to drive, Im stuck with the boring daily driver.

Ironically right before I found about this "rule" the DOL let me spend over $350 licensing my Blazer, Camper van, truck and Chevelle.....live and learn.

Re: Off-road Carnage

kidding...

Sorry to hear about that.

You can't have a buddy drive the blazer to the off-road park and then take it from there?

Bites eitherway, pay your dues and carry on I guess.

Re: Off-road Carnage

Yes. I have already had friends drive me to the off-road park and then I can take over and break my own stuff.

I thought I had "growed-up" and long since left that stupid reckless behavior 20 years behind me. I guess I had to revist it to help me turn the page into a more "responsible adult lifestyle". I know I'm better for it, actually kinda glad about where its taking me.

Blah, blah, anyway I'm still "SOFA KING WE TODD ED"

Ohhhh I see it! Man both of them cracked! Wow! maybe the PO had jumped it before you got it. The one and only time I saw your truck, before it was yours, was at Pismo. But the carb wasn't working too well so the guy that had it, not even the owner, didn't take it out in the dunes for fear of it dying on him...
Still strange they both cracked

So did you go with the Dedenbers or some thing else?

Who know's really...

Either-way, problem fixed with the new Dedenbears. (already installed)
Pic in post #35 too.
2nd pic is of one of the most valuable tools to have IMO for working on our trucks, especially when off road!
I used it @ Rausch and it saved SOOO much time, you wouldn't believe it.
Let alone making it way easier.

Re: Off-road Carnage

Ya that is one sexy Millwaakie (sp?) you got there!
I have an IRand air impact I carry. it runs good off my CO2 PowerTank but I think I like the battery operated better(18v) ~ less the hose & tank makes for easier operation
I'm gonna add that bad boy to my wish list!
Have a GREAT weekend!
