The hack saw and piece of hose is the "best way" to resolve this, unless you want to do the solder thing. The tank is a Blazer/Suburban replacement and the two tanks are identical except the filler spout, so the spout is a compromise of the two. I had an issue using the new tank in a burb, but the alternative of not having a tank, the "issues" are not a big deal and the guy that sold me mine was upfront about the spout. If you have a junk tank, or no tank as I did this new tank is a GOD send, the modifications if done like Yukon Jack did (after he spent the cash to get it re-soldered??) is acceptable.
