1MADTEXAN's projects
I finally got off my rear and headed down to my friend's holding pen and took some pics of my 3 AD projects that I bought from him for $1k total. He got them as a lot from a farm where they'd supposedly been bought all at the same time from a local dealer way back in '49.
I did a lot of poking and prodding on them all and I was happy to find that per the usual case in West Texas there wasn't a spot where rust had eaten through a panel. This one is complete will be my streetrod build. I've already got the front and rear suspension from a C4 Corvette to go under it with a Flat Out kit and it may end up with an airbag kit too. Ideally I'll get an LS series engine from a local wrecking yard to drop in it, but we'll see what I end up with when I get down the line with the build. The least complete truck is the one I considering channeling down over a ratrod style frame, but after more discussion with some local friends we're going to do an old school bobtail runabout that was popular in my local area in the 50s and 60s. It's already just a frame with a cab and front fenders, which is basically all a bobtail runabout is when complete, so it almost naturally worked itself out this way. I've got a running '89 9C1 Caprice former sheriff's department car with a 350, 700R4 and 3.42 geared posi rearend that will supply the running gear once the truck chassis is ready to go. The truck in the middle from the 1st pic I intend to build into a pro street style racer with a blown big block, but that will be way down the line once the other 2 are finished (and if my wife decides she has to have a '49 for her own then this will be the victim). Re: Show us your projects
I'm putting a 55 cab and front end on a modified 1977 chevy shortbed 1/2 ton chassis. I shorted the front frame horns a little and installed the 55 cab mounts. I made my own core support. I'm using 1958/1959 Fleetside bedsides with a 1979 chevy shortbed metal bed floor. I put a dash out of a 1959 impala in it. I used the front pulleys/brackets/serpentine belt system off of a 1993 5.0 liter silverado. I used a steering column out of a 1986 chevy full size van. I have a balanced 355 sbc engine with a turbo 350 trans with a lokar nostalgia shifter. I plan to paint it Mercedes Silver (code 744) and install torque thrust D wheels with Bridgestone radial ta tires. I'm new to the group. This is my first post. I hope my photo loads ok. |

Re: Show us your projects
Here are photos of my dash and frame. I used a Western drop spindle kit. I had to channel the rear of the 1955 cab to fit over the 1977 frame.

Re: Show us your projects
Here's my freebie project truck-
I've had it for about 5yrs and it was a freebie, all I had to do was to drag it out of field, get rid of the wasp nests and deal with the paperwork-or the lack of... It's complete and runs and has an early 60's 283 engine and (I think) 4spd saginaw trans. 1955 1/2ton, big window shortbed with a 58-59 fleetside bed. Been doing a lot research and trying to come up with a game plan for it, so for now, I plan on power disc brake conversion, rebuild the front end and when I got the $$, get a dropped axle by Sid, tilt column & power steering, a complete re-wire and relocate the fuel tank behind the axle. That should keep me busy for awhile.. Here's a couple more shots- The OD is getting ready to roll over to all zeros, kinda cool. http://s653.photobucket.com/albums/uu257/Planet_8/ Last edited by NCal55; 04-21-2010 at 06:45 PM. |
