Re: When you bought your truck, How did.....

i always had a thing for convertible trucks, so that and the desire to stand out and be unique are what made me build mine. i always wanted to build a truck so one day i came home, pulled in the garage and cut the roof off. it was about 30 minutes from the time i got home. i told myself do it now or im not going to do it

Re: When you bought your truck, How did.....

My dad had an 84 SWB that was a dealer-optioned white and blue... It is still what I think of when I think about about anything 73-87 related. I recently got it back (from being parted out) and hope to get it going again soon.

Here is a pic of my dad, me (in the glasses) and my brother changing the oil.

This is my other 84... Dad can't believe I'd take the white & blue 84 junker over it...

Re: When you bought your truck, How did.....

I have my own ideas of what I like to do. But whenever I see another truck that just looks "right" to me, I save the pic, then print it and put it in a 3-ring binder. If there was something particular about it (trim, color, custom sheet metal work, adding newer xxx, anything like that) I will write on the back of the page. I draw many ideas from what others have done, and morph them into my own vision. If you have ever looked at the build thread for my 68 that I just traded for the 85, then you would know what I mean.

Examples:

Stance, color, mirrors:

Burb/Blazer grill on a red truck:

Too numerous to mention!!!

Relocated tailgate handle, solid Blazer band, and on a red truck:

Everything! But mainly wheel/tire combo and size (I'm an old skool 15" wheel guy ), ride height, stance, use of stock rallys, black and straight, etc..... I'll probably almost duplicate this truck, but in red!

Bob that is a great idea about printing out the pics, and info on the trucks. I'll have to do that. You and I have a lot of the same plans and ideas for our trucks. I'll have to keep my eye on your build and make notes!
