Re: 55 Chevy Truck Grille on a 57

Ancient thread and a controversial one but swapping away from the 57 grill was pretty much standard procedure in the 70's. I wanted to do it on the 57 Panel I had in the mid 70's and Hardwa's photos show why I didn't. I actually traded the panel back for my 48 before I found a 55/56 nose.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: 55 Chevy Truck Grille on a 57

Grill was on eBay many years ago. It’s for a 56 Chevy and I had to use an original 56 grill shell and Chevy upper and lower valance. Had to make the hood grill from scratch. My father in law Was a machinist and he made the pieces, I fitted them, and a buddy tig welded it for me.

The GMC mustache would cover it and I honestly thought it was a gmc thing, not a 57 thing. I suppose they aren't original but they were the correct color and didn't have another color underneath. Anyone seen that before? The fun part is I'm going to use a 56 chevy upper, lower, and grill shell with a billet insert, but I'm trying to retain the mustache and the GMC hood, which would essentially make mine look like a 57 GMC with a set of billet grills.
The recess/dimples and holes in the fenders are unique to a '57 Chevy as compared to 55/56's which do not have them. I do not know about GMC's.
