Re: road trip with a carbureted LS1..pics
Calin posting for Mike from the passengers seat.
Ok guys we are just over 200 miles into our trip and thing are going fairly good. We had an exhaust leak show up at mile 30-fixed with a 3/8s. At about 200 the trans computer overheated and shut down. It was screwed directly to the floor which is not good so Mike moved it to the bottom of the seat and we got going again. We are about run out of gas so it looks like we are getting about 17mpg. More to come.

Glad to hear you made the first leg without too much hassle. One minor glitch is pretty good for an old truck even with a new drivetrain.

Re: road trip with a carbureted LS1..pics
thanks for the encouragement and offers guys.
we are now at Baer Brakes. Got into Phoenix at 330 this morning. Met the Baer guys at 630am to do the before install brake test on a rural road outside of town. Their radar equipment malfunctioned so we didn't get any data, which sucks. However they do have data on a '74 C10, which we can use for comparison and take the data with a grain of salt. We made some crazy 100 to zero mph stops, which was a bit hairy with the stock brakes. Truck got sideways a few times. Good times. We'll have video of it up on the sport truck site later today i hope. Having trans troubles now. Its not shifting into second and fourth on its own. It does work in manual mode so we aren't dead in the water. Wiring checks good, fluid smells great so the trans is mechanically sound. I think its a computer issue. We'll deal with it tomorrow. Plan is to get outta dodge tomorrow afternoon and head for Texas. We are headed to Fort Worth, which we probably wont make until Saturday. Not sure where we'll be stopping tomorrow night. I'll keep you all posted.
