Re: CL ad in tacoma washington
They follow up on the adds and go to who ever is selling the items.
They don't go after the guys who only list something every couple of months but keep tabs on the guys who run adds on a regular basis. Just as anywhere else we have guys over here in the Yakima valley of Washington who are always running adds for parts and are obviously junking cars at home for a living. Here in the valley they seem to go after the guys who always seem to have a different car or truck listed for sale. There is one guy on my way to work who sells more cars then some of the small legit car lots do. He almost always has a car for sale in his driveway and it is a different car at least once or twice a week. |

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington
Someone just pointed this thread out to me...
I don't want bore you to death, but I have been fighting one these little raids since last May. First, District Court charges (case dismissed/charges dropped by the judge) and them Administrative (Judge) hearing charges from that same inspection. Two lawyers and a lot of $$$$ and we are still going. Efforts have been made to protect Collectors, Restorers, Hobbyists and other Classic Car builders, but the WSP, DOL and Adj Gen refuse to honor these existing laws & ordinances. They would rather fight and continue to charge the people who build these vehicles...calling them illegal wrecking yards. The officer told me next is Swap Meet & CL sellers. The state has laws recognizing the importance of and encouraging activities of Collectors & Restorers, to include buying and selling classic cars and parts cars. Our county allows four "junk" vehicles, of any kind, on property such as mine...They even specifically allow (exempt) any number/no limit of specialty vehicles undergoing active restoration... The WSP doesn't think these apply to them, and they are on a growing mission. They are going to "bust" all of the car collectors they can find. Oh, they are demanding $25,000 in fines for selling a used part, charging tax and generation revenue for the state. That makes me a wrecking yard business. They argue that I can't be a Collector because, "You don't have a museum" and those "rusty old truck parts are just junk, not Collector cars". |

We need to overhaul this current Regime! PERIOD! Let those that are productive be so and leave em the heck alone! Next it'll be Bass fishermen and then who knows who or what. Sorry (not really)

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington
Hmm... I found and read the RCW on this. It seems to go way back. I can google AG opinions on it at least as far back as 1956. It appears to have something to do with preventing the dismantling and selling of parts from stolen cars. It looks to me like the executive branch has found yet another overly broad law to bludgeon the little guy with. The folks with deep pockets have no problems complying with all the licensing regulations. The little guy is forced to fold up. I've lived here all my life and I've seen this same thing repeated over and over in different industries.

Quote:
There was a wrecking yard a couple of blocks up the road from me called Airport Auto Wrecking. The owner of that yard got nailed for placing portible meth labs that he was contracted by the county to dispose of out in the yard for parts. Granted he should have gotten fined for that. However being over 80 years old and being confronted by the Sheriff about it, he more or less told them to mind their own business. Bad thing to do in his case. That got the Sheriff to bring the State Patrol out, witch brought the EPA out and so on. This all resulted in him shutting down the yard, being fine who knows how much money. I know that his family (he has since passed away) has had to sell off most if not all of their property to pay the fines that were levied against him. This is why when the State Patrol said my place out I did. They threatened me not only with big fines, but with Zoning commision, and the EPA. Used parts were just not worth it to me to take that chance. WES
