Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!
I don't think you'll be happy with your throttle return spring like that. It needs to pull forward and not down. As you have it once you have the throttle wide open the spring will hold it wide open. The spring will go overcentre when the attachment bolt on the throttle starts to go back. JMHO

I don't know if you are aware of this, but that header wrap will drastically shorten the life of your headers.....just thought I'd mention that.

x2 on the header wrap. Especially in a wet enviroment that you live in.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!
i could not tell about your intake but back in the 80s i ran the offy intake on inlines at the local dirt tracks and if yours is the same as the older versions you can remove the 4 mounting screws on the mounting flange and simply turn the carb straight ahead,i ran holleys and it was a necessity as the fuel would be forced out of the bowls in the turns and completely flood the engine and as far as performance goes everyone twisted these 10,000 to 13,000 rpm (not a typo)and man would these sixes go!

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!
The header wrap not only holds moisture against the headers, but it also traps the heat. This is even more extreme during the warmer months. Not allowing the headers to cool off somewhat quickly, essentially cooks the metal of the header, which results in the metal breaking down.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!
Well, in some cases it is needed for heat control. This is often the case on race cars, but most of those guys understand that it will shorten the life of their headers. It can be necessary on the street sometimes as well. But IMO a lot of the guys that use it don't really need it. They either [B]think[B] they need it to control heat, or use it just because it looks cool. Regardless, most guys aren't aware of the effects to the headers.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!
That is a "breather" cap shown in your picture-it should have mesh filter material or "stuffing" and a lot of holes on the underside cap lip. It allows fresh air to be drawn IN to the engine when the PCV valve opens and allows dirty case air to be drawn OUT into you induction system. You will need a PCV valve in the smaller valve cover hole.

Thanks Capt. I think it looks cool and I wanted to put some on my headers. I changed my mind.

Re: 292 offy intake edelbrock carb throttle linkage help!
Joey, I've got a similar setup. Offy manifold on a 292. My carb is oriented so that the float bowl points away from the engine (driver's side). At first, I had a cable that pulled from the valve cover side, similar to what you have. It worked, but there was more friction in the cable than I liked. So I switched it all around.
The cable now pulls from the fender side, connected to the lowest tang on the throttle link. The springs are connected to the top point on the throttle, and come back horizontally towards the drivers side. The bracket I made is attached to the two carb mounting bolts under the float bowl (away from the head). It's been working great for years now.
