Re: 1966 K20 Project
Here is the Vac and Tach Gauge Cluster I have been working on for it. Still waiting for the Gauge Surround to get back from Chrome Plating.
It is a combination of 3 different Gauge Clusters, a Tac/Transmitter and Vac purchased off evil-bay along with an NOS Temp Gauge.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
Thanks!
The Tach Gauge was a lucky find in one of the 3 Gauge Clusters that I used for parts. The Tach Transmitter has been converted to solid state so no batteries needed. The Vac Gauge is a restored factory gauge with a new face and needle. They bolt right in but they are a little pricey.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
I am going to keep the Cab and front sheetmetal. I am trying to decide on building the 4x4 or selling it and building a short fleet.
Here is the thread about it - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=464994

Re: 1966 K20 Project
The truck is on e-bay. If it sells I will build a 2WD if it doesnt sell then I will build the 4WD. I keep going back and forth. I really want a 2WD Short Fleet, but this 4WD is a great truck that is alot of fun too.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
No bids yet as of today, so it looks like you will be building a 4x4. Why not build both, then you can tow the two wheel drive on a trailer behind your 4x4 when you go to car shows.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
either way I think you will be satisfied. It will make someone a nice project! I am partial to the 4x build cause you just don't see many of these ol 4x4's out there anymore. Especially compared to 2wd's! But good luck in your decision as we look forward to seeing any old ride restored!!

Re: 1966 K20 Project
The reserve on the auction is $6950.00 so I will have to see if it gets there.
Like I said above the 4WD is great! We have all kinds of places to ride out here in the Mountains and Desert. It just wont be very original when finished. I have a bunch of optional parts and the new axles, wheels and tires for it.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
These are the Steel Wheels I had made up in 17X9 with 5" of backspace. They have to clear a D60 and 14B FF with Disc Brake Conversion. They fit like a glove over the brakes and steering.
They are a little dusty from setting around in the garage.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
I bumped into him at Sema 2 years ago. He said he could make any wheel. This is exactly what I asked for. It took a little while but the results are great. I dont think they would be interested in making more but I could try to find his contact information again and see. I had 5 made up for a full size spare also.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
Sorry, the only way I would sell them is if I dont build the 4WD. Then I will have to sell a bunch of great parts that are already rebuilt/restored.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
Thanks!
The plan is to run the real long chrome lugs front and rear. I am going to run a set of real thin Stainless Steel Trim Rings. The Dana 60 Mile Marker Hubs are Polished Stainless Steel. The 14Bolt FF will have Polished Stainless Steel Axle Shaft Bolts. Should look pretty good when finished.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
She didnt sell so it is back on the building block! I am real happy that it didnt sell. I was real close to just pulling it off the auction block for the last few days.
We have been getting some of the sheetmetal hammered back straight. I have a bunch of sheetmetal going over for touch ups on the media and then coated in DP90LF. The patch panels I ordered still have not come in so no work on that yet. The rear shackles will be getting done at the machine shop next week. Once we have the front and rear shackles done then she will be going down to National Spring. While down at National Spring she will be getting new springs front and rear. I am keeping all the original mounts and grease pins. They are going to make the new springs with 3 1/4" of lift. The rear springs will be a full lift spring so no more blocks. The new axles will also give her a lift of 3/4" due to the increased diameter of the axle tubes. The total lift will be 4" higher then she is now.

Re: 1966 K20 Project
Picked the '66 up from having the Dual 2 1/2" Stainless Steel Exhaust mandrel bent up at a friends shop. We used a set of Stainless Steel 1 5/8" Primary Block Hugger Headers with 2 1/2" Collectors, they fit like a glove.
I really didnt want to do the exhaust right now but the old exhaust was in bad shape. The only down side to the new exhaust is that it is soo much quieter now. I was really getting used to the old exhaust with burnt out mufflers. I am sure it will get a little louder with time and heat cycles. Next it is going to go down for the new springs. I have to get the rear shackles back from the machine shop, they will be 2" longer then stock. We are also going to make some new front shackles that are 1" longer. The longer shackles are to give the new springs more flex before they bottom out the shackles on the frame (front) or spring hangers (rear).

Re: 1966 K20 Project
I got my modified stock 1966 Steel Grill back from Chrome today. We cut out the mesh in the center. I am still undecided on whether I will add a Chevrolet Bowtie in the open center off the support.
