Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

If you used 71-72 spindles,... you have to use 1-1/4" rotors, bearings and matching calipers.
Calipers can be the 73-80 version,... but they have to be for the HD 1-1/4" rotors.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

So pretty much it'd be impossible to use the 1" rotors.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

Pull the pads out and measure the thickness of the inside vs. the outside pad. If the outside pad is thinner the caliper isn't sliding back on the bolts and is constantly maintaining pressure. If the inside pad is thinner ( you said the rotor is grooved inside) then the piston isn't returning or something isn't letting it return. You can rotate the piston in the caliper, then squeeze it back in and it MAY free up. Make sure the brake hose is not twisted (the painted line on the hose must not be twisted). Follow the hardline back to the valve making sure it isn't dinged anywhere acting like a check valve. Then its onto the proportioning valve...

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

My front wheels have always been like that. I have an ECE drop spindle and disk brake conversion. I started a similar post years ago and I was led to believe that it was normal.

I'm not saying its right. If its not, i'd like to know how to fix it.

The groves on the back side of the caliper should line up with the rivet holes in the pad. That's normal based on my experience.

Someone mentioned the caliper bolts...make sure you gease those up so the caliper can float freely.

If you are using Autozone pads, they will eat rotors bad, and dust horribly! Go to O'reileys, and get Performance Friction pads. They cost a little more, but are worth it.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

If the caliper is locking up it will dust a lot more. Is the dusting even on both sides of the truck?

Autozone pads usually have red backing plates. Autozone also sells cheap rotors. If you don't recognize the brand name on the box, they are usually junk import rotors.

The dusting could be normal, I dont know.

I would say the dusting/locking is even on both sides

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

I haven't had disc brakes apart in quite a while, but is there a way to shim the caliper toward the control arm a bit? or maybe have the rotor turned on the inside so it is a few thousanths smaller on the inside for clearance? Obviously there is inteference between the inside of the rotor and the brake pad. If worse comes to worse, I wonder if there would be a way to put a shim between the inner bearing race and the rotor. That would hold the rotor outboard by the thickness of the shim. You would probably have to have the shim machined, but it might work.

Ok, was under the truck awhile back, noticed the braided NEW soft lines WERE infact twisted.

Can the twisted lines really cause binding??

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

Does both front wheels have the drag and wear on the inner side of the rotor or just the one in the video?

Yeah, super grooved inside and outside.

Whats 'run out'

And what would the outside of the pad matter (jw)?

Hydraulic fluid must freely flow within the line. The force of your foot applying pressure might be enough to overcome the 'kinked' line for stopping but there would be nothing allowing the same type of low once the pedal is lifted.

Un-kink the hoses, replace the rotors, & get new, better quality pads.

Re: Video of spinning my front left wheel off the ground..

hello i think your problem might be that your rotors are grooved. the pad is riding in the groove. you may have said but when or did you have rotors turned?also put a LITTLE grease on bolts and the sleeves. very little just enough to lube . maybe not grease but w.d 40. DO NOT GET IT ON PADS/ ROTORS. , caliper needs to be able to move freely. hope this helps . be sure to have rotors turned. cost a lot i know! good luck
