Re: toyota r nissan frame

I think adapting a Chevy frame to accept Tundra suspension parts would be easier, really.

Re: toyota r nissan frame

I know this is an old thread, but happen to run across it. And wanted to throw in the fact that I am currently putting a 68 fleetside on a 04 Tundra chassis engine and drive train and it's working wonderfully thus far. Only reason we chose this route was finances. It was wife's grandpa's, went to other family member and ended up with extensive under carriage damage, I got the low mileage yota for super cheap due to a rogue tree ruining the cab. And yes I am proud to be 100% American and have done my service. I chose to use some ingenuity and make the wife happy while giving me a challenging project.

Re: toyota r nissan frame

toyota nissan mazda and isuzu frames are almost exactly as wide as the original frame (45 1/2" wide on a mazda vs 46" on an AD), and mazdas have a rear axle that is 57" wide, which works out perfect for track width on an AD and mazdas nissan and isuzu use the same 6 lug bolt pattern of the original AD truck. a mazda ext cab wheelbase is 117.5 (same as the long bed, easier to find)

power disc front brakes, power steering, IFS, easy to set ride height with torsion bars. plenty of room and readily available v8 mounts.

I put tens (probably hundreds) of thousands of miles on 87-92 mazda trucks and fooled around with nissans toyotas and isuzus for over a decade as a worthless minitrucker. I have the truck I built in 99 (an 87 mazda ext cab) in the driveway, my daughter bought it for nostalgia and has just let it sit, if I can find a cheap cab I will be using it.

Re: toyota r nissan frame

Well... Folks will put later chassis and parts under an old truck and be proud to say it's "All American."

Unfortunately today's automakers do not restrict parts to a single country of origin nor are they tied to specific suppliers for all they use. Just because the truck brand is American doesn't mean the parts are.

It just doesn't seem right. Even restos preserve the greatness of our old trucks to a major degree. Maybe under a Rat Rod, those builds have given up identifying with anything.
