My tach install thread

Well, technically, its a sealed unit. It probably can be cut apart. I dont reccomend it because you dont have to. It may not be mountable when taken apart. I wasnt ready to sacrifice $130, in case i damaged it while cutting it. I plan to paint the chrome black to hide the shiny spot.

Im also looking into a clock setup. I havent come up with one i like. Its difficult to find a 3 3/8 diameter clock. Nobody in the parts houses is giving any dimensions. The closest i have come to is a 66/67 chevelle clock or Classic Instruments has a "SG93SLF Clock (w/reset button)", but cant seem to find a picture of it. It may come in different styles though. More research is neede on my part.

Oh yeah, Bobsgauges.com says its $148....not exactly cheap.

Autometer has a 2 1/16 dia. which is a little too small.

Sorry for the very slow response. I just now came back to read it, lol. As far as T2vigil's question goes, that chrome bezel is crimped onto the back case. I wasnt ready to sacrifice a $130 tach by cutting it. I do have the skills, but didnt want to come up with some wacky setup to put it back together in case i couldnt mount it like the factory tach. It fit in the cluster housing, so i went with it. I still havent made up any extra brackets yet. Im on to restoring steering wheels.

First let me thank Rideblue for his help in providing the bracket for mounting the tach. It works perfectly and makes the install super easy. Now for the interesting part. After talking with the Sun folks the glass front on the tach is one piece that covers the whole front of the tach. It is also sealed to the to the tack itself. I say this to let folks know that if they want the front of the tach can be ground off. I took it slow and easy and ground off the front. I am really pleased with the outcome since there is no chrome to paint. If someone can guide me through the process of posting photos I will take a few. Again thanks Rideblue.

What is the part number of the Tach you guys are using?

Sunpro FZ88R is the model here i have used. I am interested in making more of these adapter plates, its just i am working alot of hours right now and dont even have time for my truck. I sold one to T2vigil and hopefully he will post some feedback and pics of his install. He said he actually cut the tach apart. I am interested in seeing his install process.

Thanks Mark. A heads up to those brave enough to grind off the bezel on a brand new tach. If you get in too big of a hurry to grind and get a moisture film on the inside of the glass, slowly use a hair dryer to dry it out.

Just an update. I finally got around to making some revisions to my adapter. Like a year later! lol Had to fix the adapter to accommodate the turn signal. I am interested in making a few of these but havent had time. I have too many irons in the fire. I will post some pics soon. I still have to paint it yet.

My final product. I had to make a revision and include the hole for the turn signal. I also cut the wire for the gauge light and wired it right to the tach light. I still need to confirm that it it will light it up, but i dont see why not.

just put 4 pictures instead of 5 everytime I try to put 5 at a time on it says that but if I do 4 it post them just fine good luck
