Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
The plan is for a P-pumped 24V cummins, and NV4500. The 5 speed has more available parts then the 6 and its smaller, lighter, cheaper and can be plenty strong with a upgraded input shaft. I was planning on using a divorced Np205 for the T-case but I may end up looking for a atlas instead.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
OMG a full on LOL!! I think I love you. I have a 1979 big block crew with factory air. The truck was missing all the compressor brackets and compressor and such.
Soooooo, being from Canada there are not a lot of BBC with air floating around. I find one at a wrecker about 2hours from my place, I am pretty stoked with the score, was gonna take some pics of the wrecker truck and start the install. I get there and buddy, thinking he has done me a big favor has taken them all off and now I don't have a template for brackets, lines etc. Oh well... So my buddy has a small block 1978 donor truck with a/c all complete. So I gotz all the components but it sure would be nice for some template pics. I'm cruzin threads here today and low and behold, pics is right in this thread, it will save me some head scratchin! Love the crew by the way!

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
That's what I keep hearing but ive seen several of them broke even in stock trucks so I still prefer gear driven transfer cases.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
I can't say I've seen one broke, but it is hard to beat a 205. This should be a sweet truck one day.

Thanks MrBeast, you might be waiting for a while... we'll see. lol Haha thanks bilfman, Lmk if you need any more pictures. Nice 79!

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
Like I said, ive decided on keeping the old front end. Ive always liked the round eyes I just had to let the idea of keeping it grow on me a little instead of swapping it out like I had already planned on doing.

Got the carb done, still got to make the spacer..
Ive got to move the linkage for the accelerator pump to the other hole too, before anyone said anything.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
use a NV4500 out of a Dodge cummins and a NP205 from a 1989 to 1993 Dodge Cummins. They are hard to find you have to take the rear seal out of the Trans and put gaskets in the adaptor. The transfer case seal will hold the fluid i did this on my Cummins swap into the 84 K30 Crew cab there is some explanation in my build thread.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
Ive thought about doing it several different ways including the 29 spline route but those suckers are hard to find and expensive when you do. I'll just have to see what comes up for cheap when the time comes around.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
I really like your truck! Glad you decided to keep the stock front end too! I know you said the plans were blue and white, do you mean a blue truck with white two-tone, or the other way around?
I like the stock colors too... you know, just in case you cared, lol.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
Are you going to lift it too? Hard to beat the look of a lifted crew cab. Keep it at 4 inches or under, and it will still ride nice and be a functional pickup too.

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
Definitely 4" or under, I still want to be able to pull a gooseneck with it. I'll get the cummins as high and far back as possible even if I have to cut into the firewall and trans hump. I think im going to put 37" hummer tires on it too, and I might know a guy with some 16.5 dually wheels I can get. This also means taking out about a 1.5" wedges out of the front of the front fenders and 2"s out of the rear of the front fenders for extra tire clearance while keeping the stock "appearance".

Re: 1978 CC Dually I picked up the other day
I have seen plenty of overly abused 241's in offroad rigs live a long time. If you can find a shop to do it you can flip the 241 over and run it upside down so its a right side out for the front. Just need to tig up a couple holes so it wont leak.
Looks like you found a nicely documented truck to start with. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
