Thanks for checking in everyone! It may be sporadic, but I WILL make some headway on this project. Been heavily researching parts, trying to do it right, but keep it affordable. This is like anything else, you can spend as much or as little as you like on it- I like the challenge of operating within a budget- anybody with the means can throw money at a problem...

Anyway, did some low budget work that didn't cost me a cent: tore it down to the long block. She's a dirty girl, but I think I can clean 'er up enough to take home to momma...

Haha- well, I had intended on running it stock at first and getting it going on the cheap. After a compression check, I decided I wouldn't be comfortable without a rebuild. Now, I'm having trouble not going crazy with the 'while I'm at its'. I already got the 799 heads, which are the same as the LS6/LS2 243 casting. They will raise static compression to 10.4:1 and are among the best flowing cathedral port heads. Was planning on TBSS or LS3 exhaust manifolds, but with what theyre going for, long tubes aren't much more money. Now I'm considering a cam as well- we'll see where it goes...

cool i see you are heading in the right direction , i see you mention ls6 heads , well the zo6 ls6 motor is the most popular engine to swap parts into that lq4 motor, just a cam intake and throtle body gives you a nice increase in hp and you can pick these parts at a !! budget !!! price , just throwing ideas at you after all thats what we do in this thread , drive each other crazy !!! lol

Thanks! Gonna stick with the truck intake/throttle body, as the gains from switching to car type are negligible and I don't need the hood clearance. I have thought about the Z cam, too, as they can be had pretty cheap (if you can find one), but part of me wants to go big It will likely come down to what I can find the best deals on. Stay tuned- you may be as surprised as I am at the outcome...

Awesome

I was considering a small cam too, still am. The stock cam idles silky smooth in my LQ4 and has gobs of torque but still want more power like any gearhead

Even with a mild tune this engine will wake up with even a stock LS6/2 Vette cam, should provide lots of pull mid top end so consider one before you get deeper.

No trying to sway you even the stock 6.0 has lots of power stock, it will go next level with a nice cam and tune. Even I cannot hook this thing with the stock engine, get ready for bigger tires.

Minor update: been scrounging some parts here and there and with you guys' 'support' in mind, I ran across a package deal on '06 TBSS exhaust manifolds, cam and 'yellow' valve springs and couldn't pass it up. Not sure if I wanna use the LS2 cam or not at this point, since it would require a timing cover switch to accommodate the cam position sensor- we'll see what pops up for sale in the coming days. Thinking an LS6 cam would be decent for a stock grind, without breaking the bank or having to move the CMP...

Had to try the manifolds on for aesthetics- I must say they look much better without the heat shields attached. Thinking of doing a cast grey ceramic coat... Also got my CarShop 1" setback mount adapters- the finish on them leaves LOTS to be desired, looks like they stuck them in the box before the paint dried, but they were priced right and fit perfectly. The mounting holes are offset to make up for the thickness of the plates and they are clearanced to require no grinding to the block or mounts, unlike many I've seen for sale. They don't, however, leave any room for factory compressor mounting, so I also picked up a KWIK Performance top mount A/C bracket to accommodate my Sanden compressor- hoping it puts it close enough to my current serpentine setup that I won't have to modify the hoses. Still waiting for the CTS-V/LSA oil pan to arrive- at least I can say my oil pan has 550hp!

I'm following this closely b/c I've always enjoyed your builds and I'm thinking of doing the gen3/4 swap too at some point. I know what you mean about truck parts in the living room. People come over and think I have some sort of upholstery business b/c of the different seats I have waiting to go into vehicles

The checkbook is the limit on these motors, looking at those mounts..... I ordered the wrong ones for my swap and had to modify them. I thought I made them set back a half inch but I think i might be about 2 1/2 inches back lol. Ill be following this one

Sweet! Good score on the TBSS mani's and other goodies.

I even had to do some "mods" to my TransDapt adapters, as well. I had to enlarge all the holes, because none of them lined up.

Yeah, I had that issue with my 'standard' TD plates before and figured the problems would only get worse with the 1" setback style. I am quite happy with the fit on the CarShop mounts, just gonna have to re-paint them...

I have talked in the past about how cool I think it is to have shiny, new truck parts in the living room. My top previous picks have to be my Dropmember and associated parts (sadly sold) and my current 20" wheels. I'd say these are a close third in living room parts ranking, due to the fact that they just look so COOL. I think headers my favorite engine parts...

They are Pacesetter made for Trailblazer SS. After c10seconds' success with the Kooks version, I started looking at these. Still not 100% sure they will fit, but pretty sure...

Maybe late, but you'll probably beat me! The Thorley's were too rich for my blood at $600 plus, so I went 'cheap'. These are ceramic coated, 1 3/4 primaries, 3" collectors, 3/8" flanges, 14ga tube, and $370 shipped from Amazon...

Mocked them up on my filthy engine. Plenty of clearance for engine mounts and they tuck in tight to the engine. Don't hang down far, either. Installed pictures I've seen have the collector pretty close to the servo on the pass side and driver's side kicks out a little to clear shifter linkage. REALLY hoping these fit...

Please don't mind my garage being in shambles--we're moving and everything is a mess right now...

So what made you ditch the TB SS Manifolds for the headers? I've been looking for some manifolds for my swap.... I have Yukon manifolds now but havent test fit anyting yet so not sure if I need them....
