Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I had a 62 at first, and a sweet 62 kansas tag with two numbers "26" (62 in the rear view!), but the dmv wouldnt title it as a 62, so I switched to a 65 and my friend came through with a 65 tag. no special meaning, I guess BA (for barber county) could be "Bad A**"

Mine has my granddad's used car lot painted on the door, so I run a 1963 Colorado Dealer's Tag on the front.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
Very cool. Also nice to see the black trim around the headlight bezel on the 63 grill. They came from the factory this way, but you dont see it very often anymore.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I'm currently looking for original 1966 Oregon plates for mine. Something a little different, and I may get a personalized plate instead...we'll see.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I got these for my 65 C10 short stepper. The condition is just right and I won't change a thing except add clear coat. I plan to use the better of the two plates.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
Look at the local Antique malls. I find old tags in there all over the place, and that is where I found the 66 tags for my wife's Panel.
Will be on the hunt for 68 tags also now that my father in law gave me his dads old 68 c10 lwb

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I wasn't looking too long and found a few sites. the plates I got off of ebay look like they were only on a short time and put back in the plastic sheath and put in a drawer. Not a scratch on them and never had stickers on them. I'm going to make a metal tab to bend over the plate to put the stickers on.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
What you have there is a potential goldmine in stickers. Used original, but intact annual stickers fetch a pretty penny for the discriminating YOM buyer. Reproduction stickers are of lesser quality and all have the same registration number on them (the ones I looked at for '66, anyway). I can't tell you exactly how to successfully separate each one from the stack, but it could be worth it if you have the patience.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I still have the black California plates that were issued to my truck in 1963. In the old days I used to soak the rear plate in boiling water for a few minutes, and the stickers came right off without damage, and leaving no residue on the plate.
I tried the same thing with the reflective plates that are issued in Idaho and Washington, and all it did was liquefy the paint and turned it and the sticker to a gooey mess!

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
Just don't understand why so many of us didn't think to save things like that.
I guess we'd have a bunch of junk in storage just in case it is worth something someday.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I did a 61 chevy convert back in the 90s and used YOM plates. I had a set of new YOM plates and picked up some original stickers at Pomona the were expensive then.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I'm glad that i'm not the only one who loves these details, all of my old cars have YOM plates. In fact, the 66 truck came with it's black cali plates, but i'm in ohio so i sold them online (they fetch a fair price.)
Here's two i scored last year in columbus at PPG nats, i better get to work restoring these to go on the truck! Probably going to run the truck ones and sell the farm ones to someone with a patina truck. In Ohio at least, you get normal historical plates you throw in the glove box, and just show these at the time at the BMV and the register the number as a "pointer" to the historical plates. When they run the YOM plates, the historical plates come up and then your info. Historical plates don't need renewed yearly, and are good forever or like 25 years. Haven't owned on long enough to need to renew.

Re: Original License Plate Score!!!
I agree that YOM is a must have detail for any car older than 1975.
I am disappointed though, I have several plates I received from late Grandfather including a set for my 1965 but I can't use them as the number was reassigned to a trailer plate in the 1970's and is still registered. It doesn't even matter if its in use or not. So I'll need to find another set with a number that is valid.
