Re: Just curious...

I had a 1974 Chevy Silverado back in the early 80's and it did not take long for the rust to start showing up where someone completely filled a good part of the body with Bondo and just started to fall apart and now I see why. Took a good loss on that truck when I traded it in. They really did not even want the truck but I just took the lost and got me a newer Chevy. I too did not want that truck any more and did not want to put the money in it to repair all that rust. Would had to take all the paint off and that was a scary thought. I can remember seeing those years around here (a couple of them) and they were so bad that I would be scared to drive it.

Re: Just curious...

Thanks Keith your input has been a welcome sight like spring rain. Thanks. All I know is out of say five trucks listed on CL most likely they'll be a '77 model or on up. I even see more '73 and '74 models than '76 and 75. Although I've seen '75s listed less. Thanks again. Thanks again for all the input.

Re: Just curious...

Keith, you are right about desert vehicles. The 2002 Cavalier beater I recently bought had all of the clear coat flaked off from the hood, roof, and trunk and most of the paint was gone from those areas too - right down to the primer showing. Still, no rust anywhere. So, even though I question the whole concept of clear coat (because it always flakes off in hot climates), I think GM must be doing something right to have the primer preserve the steel.

I paid $350 for a cheap paint job on the Cav, and $125 of that was for completely sanding off the top of the vehicle. It doesn't look bad, so I might give them the C20 dump truck to work on - pickups start at $400
