Re: Any LT1 350 owners on here?

The 4L60E is just an electronically shifted 700R4. If you have a long tail TH350, it should swap right in. I would leave it, since the PCM will control it.

Sounds like it could be a fairly easy swap.

Re: Any LT1 350 owners on here?

That looks like to Good of a deal to pass up. Unless you're just stuck on ls1 or something that's the way to go. Like the post above lt1swap Has all the information to do the wiring. I sent them my ECM and they reprogrammed it for $75. used original wiring harness and just added and subtracted the wires from there instructions. My wiring expert that's a good friend did it actually I was the helper . There were a few bad Injector and alternator plugs That I had to go to the junkyard and scrounge up But that's half the fun. I'll try to find some pictures of the engine stands And wiring harness that I used .

Don't sweat the electric speedo. You can do an aftermarket gauge setup with an electric speedo, or use a Cable-X box from Abbott. The cable X is about $300, the gauges would be up to you. I looked at swapping the tailhousing out on my '79, but ended up using the 90-91 suburban electric cluster, as it is a bolt in in that truck. The VSS signal comes from the PCM, and it is already buffered.

I hadn't even thought about the speedo. Can it be made to use a stock speedo?

There's all kinds of little things that come up for sure. You'll have to get the box to convert electronic to mechanical or change out the tail shaft. Both seem expensive. I went with a new electronic speedo.

Nice looking. And then you get gauges instead of lights.

That's where the Cable-X comes in. There is a plug that has switched power, ground, & VSS signal in, and teh box converts it to a speedo cable end. You can fine tune it for pulses per mile, tire size, etc.

Oh......I see.

Still learning all the ins and outs of this stuff. Trying to read up on what I can when I can find it.

You can also use the LT1 Camaro cluster. I swapped one into my Impala SS. It would fit decently in the truck bezel.

Re: Any LT1 350 owners on here?

Question;

I am wanting to rewire my truck with a new wiring harness. The LT1350 will be a while before it is ready to drop in so I want to continue to drive my 283 V8 while that one gets pulled and prob. rebuilt.

Do I need a special wiring harness for the LT1? Can I order a regular harness made for my truck from somewhere like LMC or Painless to run the 283 and then it fit the LT1 when its time?

Re: Any LT1 350 owners on here?

Not really. When you pare down the harness or use a stand alone harness, you get it down to switched power, constant power, grounds, and a few mics. wires (park/neutral, vss, a/c request, brake on/off, etc). You should be able to tie these in with any aftermarket harness you use.

edit: get the aftermarket harness you are going to use, and integrate the LT1 wiring into that.

Thanks. I am new to this type of build and all and my biggest fear is to spend 500-600 on something and it not working for what I need or something.

I didn't want to buy a harness and then end up getting the LT1 ready and not being able to use that harness.

Re: Any LT1 350 owners on here?

You should be cool. I did a TBI swap in my last '74 using the fuelinjectionconection.com harness, and used the original wiring. Seems like it was 12 wires, max. One thing leads to another, and it got a new interior along the way (twice!).

You will need a separate harness to run the LT1. They are available from several places such as Painless, Howell, Techrods, Fuel Injection Connection, etc ...

You can easily use a stock GM harness from the donor car. You don't have to go with aftermarket. You can buy an LT1 Caprice/Roadmaster/Fleetwood parts car for the price of just an aftermarket harness!

One more small thing to hook up. LT1 has reverse cooling with a steam line that needs hooked up. I've seen several ways. I hooked my line in the heater line with a connection from autometer to hook up a in line gauge. Worked great. It's the brass fitting to the left.

Even if I pull the one from the Trans Am?

I was hoping to salvage the wiring harness from the Trans Am.

Re: Any LT1 350 owners on here?

During the TPI years of cars around 89 the harness was integrated within the dash and engine harness. If you know how to separate just the EFI part of the harness out then you can run the OEM harness. Not ever messing with a stock LT1 style harness myself they may very well be separate from the rest of the car.

You can salvage the stock harness as others have posted in here. Have you looked at http://www.lt1swap.com/ that will answer the questions about the harness.

I have a 94 Corvette LT1 swapped into my 65 as well. I used a harness from fuelinjectionconnection too. You would have the added cost of the harness but it does keep everything under the hood nice and clean.

I used this as a starting point for wire removal/addition.
