Re: Intake Ducting
That was the one I considered as well. The coupler and filter I bought only totaled $35 so I figured if it didn't work at least I'd only have to buy an elbow and tube

Re: Intake Ducting
Update: I got the ebay cold air intake and it won't work for me, but it does give me some parts and pieces to do some mocking up and see what I really need. It MAY work for someone else with a slightly different setup. I have a 49 Chevy truck on an S10 frame with a 5.3. Because of frame interference, I have Kwik Performance brackets and will have a Sanden compressor mounted high on the passenger side. That's one of my clearance issues.
Another clearance issue is that the stock AD inner fenders don't leave much room in the engine compartment for other stuff. They were fine for a carb'ed 216, but for an EFI 5.3 they leave a lot to be desired. Building new inner fenders has been in the plans for a while, and is starting to take shape. I think I will likely be sourcing components from some of the links folks have posted up, so in the interest of public sharing thank you! Here's my pictures: I really need to go out farther from the TB before I turn: Original inner fender, very little room: Here's the beginnings of the new...looking like there will be about 5" more room, plus space in front of and behind the tire for things like air box, ECM, overflow tank, squirter tank, etc. Starting with 36" trailer fenders and will roll sheetmetal to close it up some more. The goal for the filter location is about here, but on the passenger side:

Re: Intake Ducting
Thanks for the update. Just a thought...couldn't you switch that 90* elbow around to get the curve farther away from your TB? It looks to me like there is more material on the end that the pipe is on.

Re: Intake Ducting
I know it's not a LSx motor yet! But this is how my TPI is setup.
Here is my setup in my 1971 Chevy truck. 1990 Caddy air box modified by me. I first sealed the normal intake opening up which in the first picture has the sheet metal screw showing. I used gasket sealer also and then used a 4" hole saw to drill a nice opening in the bottom of the box. I then took a PVC coupling from lowes and cut the threads off but left enough pipe to attach the 90 elbow then took another coupling and cut the threads off of it. Took the 4" hole saw to the radiator support where the old V regulator was mounted and put the coupling through the hole to the other end of the 4" ninety. True cold air straight in from the grille area. U can see the coupling in the support in this one. U can see the 4" hole beside the drivers side head light. All installed with K&N filter

Re: Intake Ducting
Haha the engine is out of an express van so that's the dipstick it came with. I was going to buy a new one but that one works so why bother? I honestly have to take two steps back though to get it all the way out of the tube haha

Re: Intake Ducting
I was using the same as everyone else from ebay, but did not like the placement, so I picked up this from Airraid and made my own custom. It is all abs and you just cut and silicone adapters.

Re: Intake Ducting
Update on this thread. When my MAF is connected the idle is going pretty crazy so I may need to toss and elbow in there and separate the MAF and TB a bit.

Re: Intake Ducting
I have been wondering about this... where should one put the MAF right in front of the TB are out by the filter as far away from the TB as u can get it which is better u think?

Re: Intake Ducting
I believe by the filter. Most of the kits I see have the MAF by the filter not the TB, same goes with the stock setup.

Oops, just noticed, I don't have a rubber elbow. The rubber sleeve at the throttle body is from Intakehoses.com.

Re: Intake Ducting
Does your MAF still have the honeycomb in it?

Re: Intake Ducting
Has anyone used the ebay 5.3 one with a 67-72 body style? I'd like to not have to relocate the battery for an intake...

If you look straight at the MAF, the sensor/wiring should be sitting clocked roughly between 10-2. So Billet, your MAF is facing the correct clock, just in the wrong position. In eagle's and saltyone's pictures, the large horizontal run of tubing between the air box/filter and the TB is a more ideal place.
