Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

Man, sweet work. I've been toying with a turbo when I upgrade my tired 350. Mostly because I haven't done one and I think it would be cool.

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

I certainly appreciate the compliments.

I cannot take credit for the excellent tig welding on both the stainless and aluminum. That was all done by a buddy of mine. He is a top notch welder (does all of our sanitary stainless welding at work as well). Even the bracing and boxing of the frame for the downpipe pass-through is welded like it is on display!

A couple pics of welds to enjoy!

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

Thanks again. Only minor trimming of the inner fender to fit as well and puts the gate outside of the engine compartment.

Getting close to firing it up. Figured it would be nice to get a heat cycle through it and check everything out before the body is finished (that's my plan anyway).

The most accurate thing I have read here when building a turbo setup is take your budget and multiply it by 2 if you are conservative or 3 if you are realistic!!!

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

The headers are some cheap up and forward headers I found on Ebay; however, they seem to be built fairly well. We did cut the v-bands off and shorten the headers a bit so the 90's off of them could fit properly in the space allowed.

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

Progress!!! Down to the color sanding stage. Hope to get it back this month. Thought I would throw up a couple pictures.

I don't know why I even had a budget for this build!!! Dang fun things are expensive.

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

Appreciate it. Unfortunately, it isn't much further along since late March! I do have the bed wood all in, column, shift linkage, drive shaft, and breaks installed. Need to do a massive amount of wiring and get this thing on the road.

Been busy and haven't been on lately. I'll have to post some more pics.

Good luck with your build.

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

Good looking truck! I like the color. I'm in process of finishing up my 5.3 turbo build. Got a question where did ya mount the coil packs? Thanks!

Re: 4.8L Turbo Build

Coil packs are mounted inside the frame rails (basically between the front cradle and where the front shock mount nut sits in the frame). Just made custom length wires from there to each plug.

OK thanks! That's where I ended up mounting mine too. I just need to get it tuned now. Can't wait to drive it lol
