Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
Thanks! Hope it makes it to me here in Montana soon...
No - I'd be tempted to go that route but the tire options would basically dictate a 12.5" wide 33" BFG AT and I don't want that width. These are 15 x 8 steelies with a 4" backspace.

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
Pete, if you get bored and want to check out a very cool truck shop, travel over to Great Falls and check out Auto World. The owners are great people and build some awesome stuff!

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
Thanks for the heads-up...may be a good excuse to hit the road for a cruise this spring and if I can't find a good local shop to do the gear work I can have them do the gear build.

As for the K5, KevsClassics is building a tilt in saddle to match the interior and a NOS saddle wheel I recently found. Installing these, a rebuilt OEM am/fm, Hickey roll bar, and 3.73's with a front posi are my spring projects. Spring can't come soon enough!

I concur. I can't get enough of your K5. I decided to go in the steelie/dog dish and skinny tire direction cause of your rig.

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
I'm contemplating going back to steels on my Longhorn to give it a sleeper look. I really like how your truck looks with them on it.

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback. I'm still on the fence as to the steelies vs. rallies - I like them both. I'll drive with the steelies through the spring and maybe pop the rallies on for a bit of summer driving.

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
You might as well keep both sets. I can never decide which ones look best. Same for a Short Wide and Step Side. Keep two beds. Cruise one week with one set and the other set the next week ! Looks great both ways.

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
Spring is here and the snow is gone from the roads! It will be back Meanwhile, I have a week off soon to turn some wrenches on the K5. I drove it home in preparation.
Projects include installing an OEM am/fm rebuilt and equipped with an coax jack for mp3's by Greg at S/M Electro-tech (http://www.turnswitch.com/). I'm going with an OEM-type speaker also supplied by Greg and built in the US. I used one of these in my old K10 and the sound was a big step-up from the original speaker. A good way to go versus reconing an original. Debating whether to install a period correct GM CB radio at the same time. Good luck to y'all on your K5 spring projects!

Re: My "new" 72 CST K5 w/w out steelies
Thanks fellas! I'll just have to find another K5 and that way have steelies and rallies ready to roll
Anyone have useful tips on installing a roll bar? I got a Hickey bar recently from a member. It looks straightforward (align, mark, drill, bolt) but projects never seem to go that easy for me for some reason. Anyone make backing plates for the mounts or is this overkill? I actually like the clean lines of a topless K5 without a bar but see this more as a safety issue especially with the lift raising the center of gravity.
