what type of rubber. Nos? Deluxe?

just about any local glass company listed in the yellow pages can get and intstall the glass

A lot of them don't want to do it or charge $250-$300.

you could always try to do it yourself

of course i've seen guys do it easily and save a buck or two but then i've seen guys break two or three and end up payin a pro to do it and end upspending 500-600 that way

you could always put a free ad on craigslist for somebody to do it

I tried it myself and then paid a mobil guy $75 and it's still not seated.
Just need it done correctly once and for all since winter is coming.

The installer needs to start at the top first, then work down to the bottom. Most will try doing it from the bottom up, and they will not seat correctly this way.

I will disagree. I've done several of these including the one in my 68. I was an auto glass installer for several years also. I put a sash cord inside the pinchweld groove and twist and tuck it in the bottom of the gasket. I start in the middle of the bottom and start the pulling, and slap with the palm of my hand after you get close to the bottom corners.It will start to seat as you're going. Then I work my way up the sides and around the corners. The corners can be tough, and a cotter pin removal tool will help. You have to work the cord carefully, and lube the entire rubber with a dish soap solution.It cleans up much easier than silicone spray. Then I work to the center at the top. The bottom of these rubbers kind of have a double lip, and using the tool to pull the rubber over the bottom helps. Slapping with the palm of your hand only, and don't get ahead of the cord. I'm sure there are other ways to do it, but this is the easiest way I've found. If William The Glass Man is still a member, PM him for verification. P.S. Not trying to start a P***ing match here. .02

You are correct...I had it backwards. Start at the bottom first, then go up. That's what happens when I try to do work and type at the same time.

I had a pro do mine, took 2 gaskets and three try's to get it right. They ended up working from the top down to keep the upper corners from wrinkling.
I also work at a Glass House.
Precision gasket and 70' Deluxe trim...

Lol, I guess I was right the first time then!? Your experience is what I went off when I had mine installed and it took 15 mins and fits perfectly.

I've used 'Auto Glass on the Move', they're out of oakland, but I think they travel. I've usually call them when my car is at the body shop, and they go to the shop and work with them. They did my porsche, and hummer without a hitch, and they were able to get me a windshield for my 69 lincoln for about $400 less than everyone else. Of course that was a rare windshield, I'm sure these trucks are very common, so I highly doubt you'll pay as much as I did for my lincoln.
