To install guideplates, the stud bosses will need to be machined down to compensate for the thickness of the plates, plus they need a perfectly flat surface to seat against.
At this point I would discourage stepping up to 1.6 rockers. Until you sheck your clearances, that could just compound your problem. I would also check those pushrods for straightness, before reinstalling them.
