Re: rear end decision-CL finds locally

Thoughts on running a smaller U bolt? or other options. I have a feeling just finding the correct one is going to be it but 250+ for somethings that doesnt have the gears in it kinda sucks.

You might check into the availability and strenght of a 5/8" diameter U-bolt. This will somewhat depend on how you intend to use the truck. Do you have the capability to modify the trailing arm and move one of the holes, using a piece of tube or pipe?

Re: rear end decision-CL finds locally

capt,

I got the rearend in place today. As we know the u bolts are a bit snug. I could potentially remove some material to squeeze them through or get smalle u bolts and risk it sliding around? That brings me to the next issue... do you have mounts for the 3.5" tube I am trying not to turn this into a thrown together mess but it may end up there in this route.. local yard wants %50 more for a 4.10 (old style) and I probably have to remove it myself.

yeah, I know. but he sells perches and trackbar mounts and all the other stuff for 14bolts I missed the part where the OP was looking for the trailing arm.

No I do not have trailing arm mounts for a 3.5 axle tube. I could make up a set, but I wouldn't be able to have them until mid next week.

Re: rear end decision-CL finds locally

Alrigth 4th time is the charm, found a 1978 1 ton axle srw. ring gear stamped ###### 11 41 10 77 so the ratio should be good at 3.73. if you look realllllly close you can make out the numbers. The tube OD measures 3.3-3.48 with my calipers and the WMS is 67". appears to be an open diff.

I should be picking it up friday. 4th time is the charm right... at least its a good deal, I think.

the last picture is a second axle the guy is selling and he was asking me to help him figure out what it was. I am not completely sure, he said it was from an 85 1 ton and is a 14 bolt.... is that a LSD? it was a little rusty inside...

That third pic is a 9.5" semi-floating 14 bolt. Those were typically used in light duty C/K20's and heavy C/K10's as well as the 454SS trucks and the Trailblazer SS.
