what is bolding you up on your truck build?

Time and Money mostly. Always another hobby or project that keeps getting higher priority. Lsat few months my free weekends have been spent at the hunting camp building a two man stand for my dad and son. Plus trying to get the other stuff around there done and winterize my boat and get it stored.

For the truck, I'm chasing an overheat problem, I think I have it licked but I have to replace the ignition switch now before I can try and crank it again.

Scared if I take her apart I will not get it back together! So for now its local trips and lots of waves! But I have started my rebuild parts collection. Plus its my only 4X4 and if/when the zombies come I want to be able to get outa town!

Time. I have the money (well, actually parts, I have the parts... I've had so little free time I've actually been able to spread the money over time and accumulated a crap ton of parts... like a GM crate engine, complete ECE drop kit, fleetside bed...). I have absolutely no free time. It doesn't help I keep starting new home projects... this is the last one... I think... no for real... I think this really is the last one... right?

Next for me is blasting, painting, and reassembling the chassis before putting the body on.

What's holding me up? The help!

The help seems to have held me up severely for the last year or so, and it seems that management has decided to bring on more help come January, and it will all start over again. Hopefully with a few more years of training the help will more than make up for the lost time.

Two 4x6's are holding my tub in the air...Got to drop it soon now that it's cooler outside and check the wheel placement to make sure the front cradle was installed in the correct position.

Finally got this cab put back together to go on this truck. My son volunteered to take the cab to his buddy's body shop to smooth out the rough edges and paint it before I put it on the truck. Its been there since April. I need to degrease, sandblast and paint the frame from the bed forward before the new cab goes on but I don't want to rip the truck apart and have it crippled in the yard before the cab comes back. Hopefully in the next few weeks before it gets to late to blast it.

I let myself get sidetracked by a new job and by a couple of graduate papers I've been putting off. Two men tried to break into my house a month ago so I put all my available time into beefing up my structural security. I also have a rental property that needs my attention over the next couple of months.

I think though that I can pretty soon get back onto those fuel lines and make those in my house basement. I'll have much more room there (compared to the garage floor) and it will be worlds more comfortable. Now that I've decided to put the extra fuel filter after the pump instead of before it, things should be much easier.

I think I'll be able to get the truck back together easily enough once the fuel system is reinstalled.

The Body shop is killing me... they have had my truck for 4 months now with very little progress... unfortunately they are one of the 2 shops in our area that are worth taking it to for high quality work and the other shop is booked for 18 months out... If it wasn't for a couple of major things that I need done I would just go set it and do it myself...

Laziness. I work 6 days a week 14 hours a day. That leaves Sunday. I spend half the day with my 1 yr old, shuttle the 11 year old to soccer this time of the year, and have conversations with the 15 year old as to why the school called and said he wasn't there for 1st period. At around 1pm I drive out to the farm and do "chores" and at 7 drive back for dinner. Sometimes I even get to take a nap. If I don't take a nap the trucks get attention, but I'm sure with all I do I could make more time for the trucks...but most of the time I do other hobbies like makin hooch or fabbing things up for friends. If I didn't work two jobs I wouldn't be able to buy truck stuff, diapers, cleats, and whatever else I don't really need. It's a vicious circle that will probably end with a stroke or the right lottery numbers.

First off, I wish I could correct the name of the thread, but I'm glad you all got it. Secondly, it's good to see how many people are honest with themselves and able to say out loud..."it's because I'm lazy". When my dad was alive, he was full of little wise quips, some of which were to make you laugh, but some made you wonder if he was actually pretty wise. On the subject of laziness he used to say two things, one funny, and one was more serious.

"Procrastination is like masturbation, in the end your only screwing yourself"
And...
"It will get done when you decide it is the most important thing"

Sure our trucks are important to us, but for many of us, maybe not the most important thing. I started this thread to show myself and others that it's ok to take a long time to build your toy. Many of us are in the same boat, but just because it isn't happening fast doesn't mean we should give up and sell it.

For me the biggest problems are apprehension at my lack of knowledge and tools, and being overwhelmed. Though more money and time could not hurt the cause.

Taken as a whole, it is hard to comprehend and focus. I have spent entire afternoons simply looking at the "beast", sipping beer (Mmmmm, beer) and smoking cigarettes, crippled into inaction by the enormity of this project. Accomplishing nothing. OK, I did take notes and pictures.

I have had the truck for a little over a year and have only managed to swap the worn Q-jet for an Edelbrock 1406 carburetor and rebuilding the HEI distributor. Just finished the distributor this past weekend. I know she still needs some tuning, but the engine purrs, at idle. Firing her up after that was truly inspiring and motivating.

I continue collecting parts. Got new front brake hardware, going to convert to power brakes. A new intake manifold. Aftermarket tachometer. Upgrade to the headlight harness.

Taking a four day weekend, this weekend. Weather is supposed to be nice around here. We'll see what gets done and how my liver and lungs hold up.

I imagine that this is what group therapy must be like. Without the trouble of all of us having to go and sit somewhere together, and actually see each other.

1. I don't have any place to put it if it were finished. Its vehicle #5 and I only have garage space for 4. Don't want to spend thousands and leave it in the rain/ice/snow/hail/public view.

2. My Buick has been an attention hound lately. Smoked the brand new transmission and converter so had to replace that. Yesterday tried to take the slicks off and mount the street wheels/tires and snapped 3 wheel studs off. Thought no biggie, its a good excuse to put the OEM sized studs back in since PO changed them out. Pulled off drum and each one is spot welded in the axle.
