Re: 1969 "ryder" c-30 truck
Ryder started their consumer rental truck or "One Way" operation in 1968 so this truck would've been from in the beginning and they sold that venture to Budget in 1998

that's intresting to know. I do remember that Avis and Hertz were battling it out at that time as well. Avis was #2 and their motto was "We Try Harder". They had a big campaign and they were giving out buttons with that on it

Re: 1969 "ryder" c-30 truck
well guys i finally got it purchased, what a long drawn out ordeal, still didnt know if he wanted to sell, maybe it was too cheap? he thought it might be a collector vehicle ? he did put an ad on craigs list to see if there was a market for it ? seems like everybody wanted it to move across country, and thought it would be driveable , as is ?? he had a lot of memories of his dad and him using it in there business, and him loading his band equiptment in it and doing gigs ! anyway he decided i might be the best person for it ,i do plan to do some minor body stuff, cab corners, rockers, inner fenders, paint frame ,rebuild back door, and sand and varnish inner truck box floor ! does need tires and rims{has 16,5 -was new tires BUT weather cracked-bad!} the turbo 400 needs a rear seal ! BUT this is a original low mileage truck ! pics coming soon

Re: 1969 "ryder" c-30 truck
That is great news! I am glad you were able to get it.
Now keep us posted on what you run into. I hope you are able to keep it original and get use out of it. I could have used a box truck last week when it was raining and I needed to transport some large items so my original thoughts on its utility may have been incorrect! |

Re: 1969 "ryder" c-30 truck
got it home ,did change the rear -end oil,it did have a leaking cover gasket, old oil was perfect for 40,000 miles??,the fuel tank has developed a leak under a strap, might have to put a new piece in tank ?if i can get it cleaned out good /if not, might just build a new aluminum tank?? done them before!,the back roll up door is JUNK! anybody have any idea what to use ? its plywood? /some one told me to use some outdoor type of "trim wood" something to stand the weather?? i just dont think plywood w/a paper covering would last! or hardboard ?? ,still having trouble getting headlamps/looked at several posts on site, its got to be in the firewall plug/bad connection/rust ?,need to change oil & filter ,disconnect some type of tank /engine heater ,too many hoses over ,and under engine to go bad! owner aftr i got it loaded that tranny has a rear seal leak ! OH BOY i hope thats an easy one ,i did have a problem one time where a customer had a bad o-ring on tail shaft /about drove me crazy ,maybe this one is just a rear seal and or bushing in tail shaft ??? any way more pics soon !

Re: 1969 "ryder" c-30 truck
Gas tank: I like the original thing but I'd also like to have more room behind my seat. I'd suggest getting it "renewed" at a radiator shop. It's not a cheap process but should fix up your problems.
Rear door: I'd look into a garage door company and see what they'd make me one for. Best of luck with her! |

Re: 1969 "ryder" c-30 truck
JMHO, but I'm not sure I'd varnish the deck. It'll be awfully slippery if it gets wet.
