Re: 3.73 gears???

The best bolt in option will be a 12 bolt from a 73-87 truck,It does have rear drums but i rather swap to disc then get a newer axle that will take welding on new spring perches and shock mounts. And i wouldn't run adapters i seen a few fail its not pretty when they do.

What rear end can I take from a salvage vehicle and swap it into my truck. Want disk brakes and 3.73 gears. Do not care about the bolt pattern, will just get adapters to make my current wheels work. I have two inches on each side to play with. So hoping new rear won't be to long or wide.
The rear end that we put in my son's 86 came out of a 4 wheel drive truck. It was a 12 bolt unit with a 3.73 Eaton posi unit with the six bolt axles. The salvage yard had axles from standard 5 bolt rear ends that we replaced the 6 bolt ones with. We lifted the old 10 bolt standard rear end out of the truck and put in the 12 bolt unit in a matter of a few hours. As for disc brakes, you will have to find a supplier for those.
