Re: Swap to t5
Makes me think about doing the swap in my patina truck. Was going to go with a 700R4 but it might be ok with a T 5 in it. I didn't want to deal with a clutch in traffic all the time. Also, what years work? I don't know much about the t 5's.

In short, Find an S10 T5 from 1993 or earlier. It must have a Muncie bolt pattern if you are using the old style cast iron bell. See my website for more details. If you find a Camaro T5 with a Muncie pattern, they can be converted to have an S10 shifter. The S10 shifter position is required if you want to keep a bench seat. Most old trucks have a fairly low rear diff. A 3.73 diff is common and the best T5 to use with the 3.73 is a T5 with a 0.73 or o.72 OD gear.

Re: Swap to t5
Lugnutz65: is there a way to figure out what my overdrive gear is? I thought it was a 0.76 or something like that but I don't remember.

If it's got a metal tag then the BritishV8 website chart is fairly accurate but I have found it to be wrong many times. Best way is to count shaft revolutions while it's out of the truck. You can use an accurate tachometer too. Since 4th gear is 1:1 you can see how much the RPMs drop at say 65 MPH. If 65 MPH in 4th gear is say 2900 and then it drops to 2100 in 5th, then that would be a 27% drop which means a 0.73 OD gear.
