Am I missing something or am I just an idiot?

I just got a set of the reproduction sport mirrors. The screws will not physically fit into the bracket. They will shear off before screwing in.

Am I just being stupid? I figured these would be an easy "plug and play" thing. Sandwich mirror and bracket around door and screw together.

Was I sent the wrong screws? I know lots of you guys have used these reproduction sport mirrors and I'm wondering if these are the normal screws? I may have to drill out the holes a bit and find someone to weld a nut onto the back of the mounting brackets and pick up some new hardware, which was more work than I was expecting.
